XB1 Controller Sensitivity Adjustment

I've been playing ED for a couple months now, and have progressed quite well in Exploration (91%) and Trade (81%) to Elite currently. For those two tasks, the XB1 controller has been fine, but recently, I've started to work on my combat rank currently at 39% (to Elite rank), and the controller resolution is causing me problems. Initially, I used gimballed and/or turret weapons, so accuracy wasn't a big problem, but I recently started using fixed weapons, like the Rail gun and Thargoid Gauss cannon, and these things are a pain to aim with the XB1 controller. My problem? Specifically the resolution at the center of the aiming recticle. Any slight controller movement causes the aiming to jump quite a bit. Trying to hit an evading ship is very difficult. I might get a hit 30% of the time. Just pressing the fire button is enough to cause a miss on most shots.

My question: Is this a result of an XB1 controller setting? I only found one Sensitivity slider in "Controls" and I'm not sure if it has any effect, or Is this part of the game design, and the resolution will get finer as I increase in combat rank?

If anyone has any XB1 settings which help, please let me know. BTW, I am looking into a Hotas, but I'm really not that impressed with the single current offer from Thrustmaster. I'm hoping that with the new November patch addition of keyboard and mouse support to the XB1, that we get other options for Hotas controllers.

I've been looking at this same issue for a while now with no real answers found yet. I started having difficulties when I started flying without flight assist. It's gotten much easier once I got the feel for using minimal input and was doing fine in combat. But then I moved away from a gimbaled MC/pulse setup on my Chief to PAs and Rails. It's been a few days and it is getting easier but it's still not as easy as just hosing things down with the old setup.

There are dead zone settings in the options menu that can help, but they certainly don't 'fix' the issue. But one thing you could do is adjust the dead zone for thrust axis on the same stick to be different. That way if you move the stick up for example, you won't be accidentally moving it left by accident.

But getting that feel for very minimal input is the key I think for using a controller.

Unless as you state, there are some dramatic changes, the hotas one x for xbox is going to be your only choice. It makes a dramatically difference in ones handling of any and all ships and impoves ones flying skills like a boss.

Yeah, looks like the Thrustmaster Hotas One corners the market on Hotas for the XB1. Just waiting to see if there are any Black Friday deals before ordering one.

You pretty much have to have one, if you fly combat BH, etc. On the XB1, you either fly with the controller or the Hotas One. I would say the Hotas has the advantage. PC guys, on the other hand, have a myriad of controller options. Good thing there’s no cross play.

I would however, prefer to use my Saitek Hotas, but then I’d have to go the Cronusmax or Titan route, which adds a lot of cabling and a PC to the equation. Kind of a pain just for Hotas, but you do have much more control.

A quick look last night, but I could only find one Sensitivity slider. Are there others? Where can I find them?

If the HOTAS isn't your thing the Elite Controler has better stick customisation controls than the standard controller. I usually set mine for a slow response initially to a fast sensitive response at full extension.

for FPS games I have different sensitivities depending on the stick so my aiming stick is more like what I described above while my movement stick is set linearly.

for elite dangerous I prefer the HOTAS over a conventional controller now but it means setting up a table in the man cave which is a pita when my mates come round to watch rugby

When using FA off ive always attributed this to the RCS thrusters. When you push the stick in one direction the thrusters fire in the opposite direction launching the nose of your ship the way you want it. As your in space there is no drag so to counter the ships movment you need to keep firing your thrusters to steady it.

Under "Flight Rotation" in the options menu, if you highlight the Yaw, Roll and Pitch Axis and press the 'Y' button on your controller it opens a dropdown deadzone slider.

The Elite Controller is great and the input curves are cool, but there doesn't seem to be a way to 'soften' the initial input. I agree that this is due to Thrusters either being off or on. There is no throttling up on them and especially with FAoff, fine adjustments need minimal, controlled inputs.

Thanks. I missed that. Definitely looking into this tonight.

I'll most likely have the Hotas One in a week or so. I already have a Saitek Hotas on PC, I just wish I could plug that into the XB1, but no joy.
