Xbox CMDR moving to PC - have a few questions

Hi all. I've been out of PC gaming for a long time (10 plus years). I got myself a new gaming rig last week and have really been enjoying it with Elite so far. It's hooked up to my 70" 1080p TV in my living room and it looks great. I do have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help me with.

- I use my Xbox Elite controller and rudder pedals. I might do HOTAS down the road but for now this set up is perfect for me right now. The one issue I'm having is I'd like to use my Xbox headset as a mic and be able to talk to people. When I plug it into the controller it seems to work ok as a mic but all of the game's sound gets routed through it, too. I don't want that. I'd like it to work how it works on Xbox live. Is this possible?

- What other goodies should I be looking into for the game? So far I have Dr Kai's ED Profiler and voice attack installed. Being able to change the HUD color and increase FOV is great! Almost worth the switch alone. Any freebie voice attack packages available out there I can try? I remember hearing about a graphics enhanced package some time ago. Is it worth installing?

- CMDR transfer: I know you can only have your CMDR's credit worth transferred and the Xbox CMDR will be deleted. Is there a time limit I have to do this in? I'd really like to have some time to decide. It would be great to have all the credits but I'm not sure I'm ready to let go just yet LOL. Anyone do the transfer and regret it down the line?

- VR: Well, I was pretty sure I settled on Vive but Oculus just had to go on sale for a very nice price today. Decisions, decisions!! :)

Thanks for the help/advise. I really appreciate!

Grats, OP. That's the same rig I have and it's going to run the game in Ultra flawlessly.

Unfortunately that's all I have to offer in regards to your questions.

Voice Attack is $10 to register, which is nothing considering how often I use it. You can try before you buy with the trial version.

I have a Vive and it's night and day for immersion over a monitor.

In regards to the audio, you're probably best off just buying a decent headset for the PC and leaving the Xbox one to the xbox. I've used TB headsets for years as a basic, cheaper headset for talking/listening to games and have never had an issue aside from my propensity to break things.

I say TB because they give you a USB and audio jack so, when you plug in with just the USB (16' cable) you can get just mic audio for your headset with regular sound still playing through the speakers. They also have dual channel control, so if you plug both in, you can adjust mic audio and game audio volume levels independently.

Right now I'm using a set of Sennheiser headphones that are amazing and were on the cheaper side of their product line @ $300, but they have the same features with better audio quality.

Nice rig man! I built a 6800K + GTX1070 rig last year and have barely touched my Xbox since. I picked up Elite on the steam sale, and am never looking back. I did go ahead and have my networth transferred as I simple am not going to play on inferior hardware (which my console definitely is) if I can choose to play it on a better one. Simple as that. I have only been back at it for a week in total though so it isn't like I have long term perspective on it. They did not mention any time frame I had to transfer within, just that I had to confirm and all that to be sure. Also, I am using an elite controller, I think you should be able to route the Xbox headset as default input for mic, and speakers as default output for sound and that may work. I use Corsair Void Wireless headphones ($99 and every penny well spent) and I can configure mine this way.

I actually did some tricky button assignments, and ended up using the "Advanced Gamepad with Rudders" setup, but without actual rudders. Instead I mapped my left/right yaw to digital press on the X and B buttons and then put those on the paddles in the back. So left stick pitch/roll, right stick thrusters vert/horiz, and x+b rudders. Basically made everything that was a combo press using those X or B buttons into LB+D pad or RB+D pad. So nice to have all axis of movement after several hundred hours with a standard controller and no need for footwork (though eventually I will get a HOTAS for this and other flight games).

Then I set up my keyboard mappings with less common/non combat controls on the Numpad so I have convenient access to some of that which also helped free up some controller buttons.

Lastly, check out Obsidian Ant's video for the info on the graphics packages. I run ReShade and love it, there are 2 other options you can choose as well. Only dropped like 1-2 fps with the additional post processing.

I can help with the audio issue, what you want to do is right click on the audio symbol on the task bar and go to playback devices. Then right click on the headset and select 'set as default communication device' once you have done this right click your TV and select 'set as default device'.

This took me a while to figure out as well, i too use my elite controller with my headset plugged into it.

Regarding transfer i had a second account that i played elite on on xbox and i transferred that (only had like 100m and fairly low ranks).

Kudos to you, didn't know you could set that up with the controller.

Thanks. I that was the graphics enhancer I was thinking of. I'm going to check it out once I get everything else set up.

That did it! Thank you so much. I've been messing around with those setting for days and never got the right combination.

I do have another question regarding AA. Should it be turned of in game or should I just have the graphics card do it?

well done OP

I just bought my Oculus ands its great, relly happy with it.

Voice Attack
EDEngineering

You'll be able to colour custom your HUD, push the seat back (change FOV), organise you screenshots better, better controller options...... basically all the things i torture my cousin for when he moans about not changing

I know a guy who transferred his assets from Xbox after 9 months so I'm fairly certain there is no timetable. I've had both accounts for nearly a year now but I honestly can't be bothered to load it up on Xbox anymore so I will probably transfer soon. Some people use a second account for exploring or something different but you'll have time to figure it out. Eventually all the differences between pc and Xbox just end up annoying you in my experience and you'll decide you only want to play it on PC.

I'll know I will be scoffed by the haters, but Steam is also a good addition. Primarily for the overlay support when browsing 3rd party sites without ALT-Tabbing out of the game. Also has Music Player some may find useful etc.

70" TV, do tell more. Is that like a good visual? I am looking around at the mo trying to find a big screen. Cheers CMIV

this is exactly what I was looking for. Glad to hear I don't need to rush it. I put a lot of hard work into the XBox CMDR but I'm pretty sure I'll be PC only now.

I think it looks great. Just hooked it up through HDMI and it just worked. No sound issues, either. I didn't want to lose the laid back-ness of living room gaming on the PC. I slide my comfy chair up close and away I go. I think the bigger screen makes Elite experience better, in my opinion. The surround sound system helps, too :)

I bought voice attack but haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. I'll check those other programs out, too. I went ahead and ordered an Oculus. The sale was too much of a good deal to pass up.

I also run ReShade and it's amazeballs.

With a review like that how can I not check it out! :)

It comes down to which system are going to play elite on the most. If you think PC (which is sounds like you are), I would switch and maybe make a new account on xbox.

The bigger the better. My screen is 125", and with the surround sound my front room does actually turn into a spaceship, I'm sure. I actually prefer my current set-up to VR (I tried a Vive for a while after release), as I think VR needs another generation or two to sort out the lenses (E: D is great in VR, but I hate not being able to see the menus without leaning forward - need double the resolution per eye before I try again).

I use a projector rather than a screen. It's a full 3D projector, and I did try E: D using the 3D settings, but wasn't overly impressed (it's ok, but not worth the hassle of wearing the glasses for).

OP... Don't delay, the HOTAS is what you need to complete your set-up. You won't regret it, and you'll start to wonder how you ever put up with the Xbox controller. I have VoiceAttack (couldn't resist the Brian Blessed and William Shatner variants), though don't use it much at all as I have the HOTAS configured. In fact, more often than not I play without VoiceAttack now (and I actually only got round to configuring it a few weeks ago - it got old very quickly).

Kudos to you, didn't know you could set that up with the controller.

I've got an X-52 setup, but I much prefer using the Elite Controller for ED. With the Chatpad attachment added to the controller body you can have all the keybindings available on a conventional PC keyboard right there on your controller. Run my gaming rig out to my 55" SONY XBR and it is like playing the game on a console from the future. :)

Works great... Much prefer this over the X-52 and standard keyboard setup.
