Xbox Controller Mapping Issue - PC

Hey All. I've have been playing Elite on pc with an Xbox Controller for year now (with a wireless dongle) But ever since the launch of the new launcher (Update 1.6 I believe) I have not been able to play anymore. Reason being that I cannot seem to use my controller anymore. The controller itself is fine (I tested in through Steam Settings, Xbox Accessories App and other games) it just seems to pick up different inputs then what I give it. First I tried applying all the default presets (controller Default, Alternative 1, 2, 3 etc) - nothing. Then tried to apply a custom mapping, but when I try to map the "B" button for instance, it will apply "Left Shift" ... same for all other buttons; Whatever button I try to apply, it will map a seemingly random keyboard button.

Things tried so far:
  • Update controller
  • Use wire
  • Tested the imputs in different apps and other games
  • Reinstalled Elite and verified game files
  • Update to steam Beta (this was suggested online)
  • Log in through Frontier Account instead of Steam
The issue remains. My hope was that it was fixed with Update 1.7, but its not. I'm out of options for now, does anyone have any clue?

*update: I fixed it. There is a new setting in the new launcher call Xinput (under settings when you slick on your name at the top). As far as I could find out its meant to make older controllers work, bit in this case it seems it was messing with my Xbox controller. So turning that off seem to have fixed it. Thanks for the input everyone!

Hello there,
I also use an Xbox controller for elite on my PC. Just out of curiosity, are you turning the controller on before you start the game? I’m asking because when I first switched to PC I found that if I didn’t have my controller on before I started the game it wouldn’t recognize it.

Yeah, I have if connected before starting the launcher. Before this didn't really make a difference in my case either.

Ok, next question. Is there any reason that you are using the dongle. My motherboard has built in Bluetooth so that’s how I have mine connected. Do you know if yours has built in Bluetooth?

No, mine hasn't. And I also tried to connect it wired, so if bluetooth was the issue that would probably have solved it.

Steam has a controller input layer to let you map game controls for games that do not natively support gamepads. Try disabling Steam controller support for your Elite profile in Steam.
