Xbox Controller Setup

Xbox guy here... Hate to start over on PC but I'm gonna give it a shot. Purchased Horizons off the Frontier site yesterday. Yeah I'd love to pick up where I left off on Xbox but no biggy, it'll probably be fun to start over... I will miss my fleet of ships and my 2+ billion credits

It would go a long way for the Xbox controller setup to be ported in on the PC side so I can just select it quickly in game and move on.

If there is already a quick fix available... Please someone show me the way. No I didn't spend a lot of time researching options.

Thank you ;)

Update:
"Default Context" showed up when I connected via a USB cable rather than Bluetooth. Sorry to bother.

That's usually the issue - generic BT connection for the XBox controller is shaky. Works with a lot of other games that don't have ED's flexibility in control bindings, rarely works in ED. If you want a wireless connection for ED with the XBox controller, get one of the MS XBox controller dongles.

If you want to see (or try) other layouts, edrefcard can be very helpful.

Unfortunately, yes - you need to use a wired connection or the proprietary wireless dongle from MS
Then Default Context should give you the same experience as you had on XB

I truly recommend REWASD. The Xbox One pad or Elite Controller in conjunction with the official Xbox One Chatpad, VoiceAttack and REWASD is a joy to behold. The Chatpad will give you a full functioning keyboard at your fingertips. No additional software is required for the Chatpad, Windows recognises the Chatpad as a keyboard, you just need to download the free Xbox Accessories app from the Windows store to update firmware on both the Chatpad and Xbox Controller. REWASD will allow you reconfigure the Elite Controller peddles, buttons and more.

Oh, yes - i forgot about the chatpad.
It's mandatory for playing on XB, but it's useful even when playing on PC.

Best Buy had an Xbox Controller & Wireless Adapter combo package for $79.99. "Default Context" is showing up in game now while wireless via the adapter. Thanks for the heads up. ;)

The chat pad looks like a neat setup but I have the keyboard right in front of me... Maybe I'm missing the advantage?

REWASD looks interesting but I've been gaming on Xbox "only" for the last 16 years and need to ease back into this PC side of things. Some of the older PC titles I played pre Xbox: F/A-18 Hornet by GraphSIm... Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six titles in the early 2000's... NASCAR Sim Racing via Papyrus and iRacing... rFactor as well.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys. I'll be cruising the Milky Way... Grinding away to get my ships back. 🤪

leather reclining sofa chair and suspended display it sure is an advantage for me ;)
still for a desk setup ya no need and it may be discontinued anyways by the looks of availability

You may find that default context does not show up when using Bluetooth if you connect the controller after you have started the game.

I use an Xbox one controller on both a laptop and PC via Bluetooth.

just a reminder there are other factors to consider when using control devices
namely steam (big picture mode)controller settings if enabled and the launcher options xinput setting

Also try DrKaii’s tool, donate him the price of a pint! Remember to switch on your contrioller on before logging in, as Codeds says above. I made the switch years back, my first PC game. It’s really wonderful. Also set INARA up if you haven’t already, many tools that link to your pc account. EDSM etc. o7

Can you give an example of why you find it useful? It looks pretty cool, but there are also 5 different bits of the product available to buy.
The amount of features and options available are amazing, you can keep it simple or go crazy. I love the fact you can have a simple single button press, double tap, combo or hold etc plus the ability to use the Xbox guide button. The fact you can an reassign the peddles should you have the Elite controller is another unique feature worth the payment alone. The developers also actively update the software. I'd recommend playtesting the free trial and the total package is worth it and some.
