Xbox - flight assist off.

Hello all:

I've tried to play with flight assist off on the Xbox and I am horrible at it. Does anyone play with FA off on Xbox or is it a unicorn (like a HOTAS for Xbox)?

Thanks,
Nek.

I flick between off and on in combat , when your running at each other and start to pass I flick it off to turn quicker , against smaller ships that try to circle you tightly I leave it off , it takes a bit off practice but gives you an edge , coupled with a turret or two not many can stay out of reach.
If you decide to run , turn it off as the ship doesn't slow down as quickly as you boost and spinning helps avoid missiles and other incoming :)

Jolly good idea, nice concise answer, +1 2u Sir.

As error said, combat only for me. I swapped the assist off/on and supercruise mappings so I have assist off/on on the Y button and supercruise on Y + Right Bumper and it works great.

What a good idea for a re-map thank you. I've made the error of getting silent running instead several times as I use Y+LB/RB very infrequently

I currently use it very sparingly in combat, when I'm having trouble with something that's running circles around me and I can't get a bead. I've toyed with trying fully F.A. off but I will need a LOT of practice before it will feel natural.

It will become second nature really fast if you map it to an easy button to use.

I started using it with horizons release, and already can't imagine fighting without it.

if i do a faoff only session, i plug my xbox-pc controller in. it is more easy for me to fly faoff only with a controller than with a hotas.

docking/landing/cruising over a surface is the most challenging part, beside scooping.

there are some people flying FAOFF only - for the challenge.

i started in a sidey, but it is more easy in non-highly-responsive ships like t9, cutter, DBE... but most of them are also more expensive.

if you want to learn, i recommend a t6. not to expensive. not to nimble. fit d-class thrusters, combine it with delivery missions - it will be challenging enough.

for FAOFF i have all thrusters to the two sticks on my controller, and yaw to the cross. you don't need throttle control if flying FAOFF.

here is a good thread with a lot of tips and helpfull people:

... that said, flying FAOFF always only makes you a better pilot ;-) --- but flying FAOFF only occasional is much more effective.

This is what I've started doing also. It will give you an extra couple of seconds of time on target when you are passing each other. Flip it off, follow target as he passes by, flip it back on and reset throttle. Now you are chasing again and you never let them get behind you.

Sometimes on interdictions if i want to test whether to take them on or not i set 50% throttle then FA off and flip around and see what they are after. Sometimes they seem to get frustrated because they can't get behind you (flying backwards) and never engage.

Practice on easier targets so if you screw up it won't cost you.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and links and suggestions. It is good to know that it is feasible and I just need practice. I've seen some YouTube videos where the pilot is not using FA and I'm like, "Yeah, I want to fly like that."

I had a hard time with flight assist off until I turned off the option that makes you turn before rolling, once I turned that off FA Off became not easy... but much easier. Now when I push left or right on the left stick , she rolls no matter how little I move the stick and now i fly fully with FA off in combat.Give it a try

After watching insinona a while back it made me want to do it too. Now I only fly FA off in my small ships like my Ieagle.

Hmmm which option exactly ?
