Xbox One controller chatpad: Worth it?

I use a regular gaming USB keyboard with a USB extension cord so it will reach anywhere in my living room. Never was a fan of chatpads. A little inconvenient I guess because I gotta set the controller down but typing is fast and easy plus you can navigate the Xbox menus via the arrow keys, tab, and enter buttons. Also, if the keyboard has a windows home button it is like hitting the home button on the controller.

Makes everything text based much easier so I'd say so, didn't fancy having a USB keyboard plugged in and the two function buttons can be used for screenshot and clip without having to do the silly double hit xbox button.

You can change them for something else xbox related in device settings though like launching a specific app or going to friends list and a few others.

I have two spare keyboards in my cupboard. I'd use them but I simply don't have the room as the space is taken up by my PC equipment.

Yes.

if you want to pirate players and not just let your guns do the talking, I'd say it's nigh-on indispensable.

swapping your hands to separate devices to communicate = your quarry has already high-waked before you've got a word in.

You've already made your decision, that's good. I've had mine for six months or more, and I love it. Takes a little getting used to, but makes life easy. The drawback with keyboards is the room they take, and the inconvenience of reaching for it. The chatpad is right there on your controller, all the time. My headphones fit right into the back of the chatpad, too.

As per the title. :)
Apart from the elite controller it's the best buy I have made for the Xbox. Taking screen shots is just a button away, key next to the left of the space bar. Star recording with the key to the right of the space bar. It can probably do more just haven't tried yet.

It's useful when manually typing system names for neutron plotting. Plus, the X1 and X2 buttons (on either side of the SPACE button) take snapshots and quick video clips respectively without the need to double-tap the Xbox button (found that one out by accident).

Yep it's well worth it, defo buy the official one not the cheap copy ones you see on sites like fleaBay. Nice thing about the official one apart from taking pics and movies quickly is that the keyboard is back lit like the power button, which is nice.

Also the official media remote is excellent too if you watch movies etc, it can also interact with your TV and cinema systems to do the sound and stuff, also nicely back lit too so looks really stylish. Another great purchase.

I used one for a while but since I game at my desk i find it just easier to have a keyboard plugged into the xbox. but yes it is a big help for chatting on the fly. i just didn't like how small the buttons are so it took me a while to get used to.

The headphone jack on mine was poor. I swapped it and within three months the new one went the same way.
I now have to choose between text chat and voice chat and choose my controller accordingly - they don't stand up to much connecting and disconnecting either so I leave mine permanently attached to one controller.
Having text at your fingertips is brilliant and if Microsoft put a bit more into the build quality I'd fully recommend one.

*EDIT*
Hook up a USB hub, and then you can have your headset's wireless dongle, your external 2TB SSHD, your keyboard, and anything else you might need all connected at once.

Very much worth it yes, even though I have a steel series keyboard collecting dust along with the rest of whats left of the pc. The chatpad is just way easier because a keyboard is harder to use on yer lap when yer slouched into the sofa...unclip that and clip in the turtle beach and yer good to go. But ye...chatpad fer 30 notes is very much worth every penny ^

YES, much easier to write to other Xbox player.

And even in a dark room you can see the letters because the light up when using the chatpad
