Well, seems that I never created a general discussion thread for groups in the XB1 section! Unless T.j or Dusty is trying to get the best of me here... :D

This thread is a general discussion for the merits of groups. These type of posts shouldn't be posted in any other thread in this forum.

Hello out there, I have been playing ED for several weeks trying to learn about many things within it and picking it up slowly, however, I just do not understand the power cycle and the costs to remain at a specific rank. I thought I did but clearly I do not. On the last cycle, I had exactly 3000 merits, I am rank 4, I thought that the cost was somewhere around 800 as that's what I read somewhere on these forums. Yet today, it is telling me I only have 1454 credits left, that means it's debited 1546. How is that even logical, what I am missing. Can someone please point me to somewhere where the merits/ranking systems is explained because I just do not understand it. The previous week it took about 1100, when I only had 2200ish. It seems to take half plus a little bit more. Is this a bug?

Brett C. thanks for taking this on; I have only been playing for one week, but love the game. Have accepted a recover landmines mission and have received a "critical mission message" but cannot find the message, nor can I find any signal near the NavBeacon related to my mission. My contact interface shows it is downloading some data but cannot find that either. My left side HUD shows a mail envelop with number in it, now up to two, but I cannot find anyway to open or view mail. Can you point me to where I can find information on how to read mail or an Xbox guide for pilots? Thanks in advance for your help, Jim

LordJim47; if you hold the blue X button on the xbox controller and press 'up' on the D pad, this will open your coms panel (you can also press left and right for other HUDS). You can then use the small shoulder buttons (LB/RB) to scroll across the coms panel tabs. From there you can open the message. Don't forget to scroll down within the message, as there is typically extra info.

Elite on PC & Xbox

I have been playing Elite since premium beta, I now own 2 copies and have 2 accounts, one on PC and one on Xbox one.
I work away from home, and when away from home I play on PC but when I'm home I play on the Xbox, I have friends who I play with whilst playing on the PC but when I'm on the Xbox I can't play with them, I know that both platforms share the same universe but we are unable to get into the same instance.
Are there plans to allow players on the Xbox to play in the same instance as the players on the PC? or is this just wishfull thinking?

Totally wishful thinking. This seems like a barrier that just can't be crushed for...reasons.

If you are looking for someone to play with, however, you are more than welcome to fly with us (I fly in a PG with the other members of an in-game Corporation) if you are lonely on the Xbox. :)

That goes for anyone perusing this board that is feeling a bit lonely flying around in the black. Hit me up if you are looking for people to play with; casual or hardcore. Doesn't matter, our doors are open.

It's funny how everyone has gotten used to it and doesn't even use this thread for group discussions at all haha.

So what's up other groups! We getting big on xbox or what!?

We've had a recent influx of new applicants, though my main issue is that we keep accepting people who love the game...for a month. I've got thirty-something CMDR's on my list...and see a handful playing currently.
Maybe this next wave of Probationary Pilots will stick...

EDIT: I'm speaking strictly on XBOX. Our PC numbers are great. And we communicate via Discord to accomplish our PMF goals, it's fantastic. Maybe it's time for an attention-grabbing Op...

Xbox players have short attention spans usually in general and most xbox players can't/won't use discord. Sap Core Uses inara mostly for group communication and is a much better place to recruit players that will stick around longer.

A simple forum topic just doesn't have the tools for a group to function properly and is pretty much why this corner of the forum is rarely seen :D

I would say that generalization is wrong. But your entitled to your opinion.

Most xbox users dont know about discord. Once they see it in action and are showed how useful it is, they use it. Inara is nice but again it is up to the CT of that group to utilize it properly and effectively for your group.

IHO the reason that this corner of the forum is rarely seen is that most groups are closed off and rather operate behind closed doors. You joined that group for a reason to play with like minded individuals so the idea of, "let them come to me" stays prevalent. Can you blame them? I dont.

I'd certainly agree with Wolfe and beg to differ with your opening statement. I've found that using the forum, INARA, AND Discord (for those who have a device to hand to access it!) can work pretty effectively.
I can't disagree with you about THIS sticky, in particular though. Maybe this should be filed under 'Kinda like Separate app for Arena'. Well-intentioned, but under-utilised. I do disagree with Wolfe that it's because of groups being closed off, rather more than, well, let's face facts, there are far fewer Xbone ED players than PC AND they had a chunk of time to capitalise, meaning that when it comes to research, for example, EVERYONE flocks to Canonn. But, well, que sera!

Most Fun I Ever had

This game is probably one of the most fun games I've played. i have played GTA vice city with and without cheats. I have also played NFS. Well there is no problem with that game. You cant complain with the music, graphics or game play. But this is the by far most interesting game. I haven't done much as far as quests and such, but man it's fun to explore, especially since the map is so large. I spent about 5 hours flying trying to reach the end of the universe and never reached it.

5 whole hours? Oh dear...ye have much to learn young padawan. The milky way is so much bigger than ye can imagine...5 hours is pretty much how long it takes to get out of the front garden and into the actual wilderness, and thats at a full sprint and in 5 hours, thatd be about 8 to 9klys depending on caffeine intake. Sorry but 5 hours aint even close to how long it takes but kudos fer dreaming big ^

If anyone still accesses this forum, looking for people to wing up with on Xbox one, just started playing again after a long hiatus, only reason I stopped before was lack of folks to play with, all my friends prefer other games, their loss. Got a bit lonely running around solo all the time. Xbox: LunatikBinge

Boom... that was indeed a shameless advertisement!

Sorry Brett C, I'm not sure that was exactly discussing the merits of groups on the Xbox one, but everyone else was doing it
/bandwagon

so yeah I guess I will also throw in my two cents regarding this subject:

obviously groups are a good thing in Elite.. that kinda goes without saying, it's an MMO and if there isn't a big focus on working together (or against each other) then you're really missing a trick.
but the Devs know this fact, of course, and I for one am glad to see things like wing missions and 'bosses' (thargoids), and 'heists' (megaships).. all of which are meant to be done in groups.

good job lads and ladies of the frontier departments.

however...

I find there is somewhat of a communication problem on Elite, ESPECIALLY on the consoles, as console players are less inclined to use forums and external stuff for the game.

this is something I have brought up before, even going so far as to make a video on the subject

I think there is lots to do when you have a group of players, it is just FINDING that group in the first place that is annoying.

some kind of LFG system akin to the multi-crew system would be great for finding new friends and especially planning EVENTS
rolling player faction lore into the upcoming galactic encyclopedia would be a fun idea and would let other players discover about player factions
bring back the local news papers!! oh how I loved them....

okay I'm done... a rant and a cup of tea in the early afternoon, how terribly British of me :)

thoughts and feedback please.
