XBox One X vs PS4 Pro - Graphics.

Hi

I have the opportunity to obtain a XBox One X and ED. I currently own the game on PS4 Pro.

THIS IS NOT, PLEASE, A CONSOLE WAR THREAD!

How do the graphics compare between the two where EDH is concerned? (Assuming being played in a 4K TV).

I am only really interested in hearing from players who ACTUALLY OWN AND HAVE PLAYED Elite Dangerous on both PS4 Pro and XBox One X, rather than those who have just heard of comparisons, or those who have only just looked at YouTube videos. Or, indeed, fanbois who have not played one or the other, but act as if they are an authority on both. So, just those who own both consoles and have played ED on both please.

Thank you.

May I suggest to look at screenshots on Xbox Live in the 4k format vs what you can find on PS4 pro

Yes, by all means feel free to suggest that :)

Unfortunately I do not yet own the XBox One X (though have been offered a brand new one, for half the retail price, by a friend who has one, but got a second for Christmas). So I can’t get on XBox Live :)

Actually you can, just create an Xbox live profile and go to Xbox.com and get the app for PC or your smart device and then go under this game hub and watch clips or screen shots. Understand the clips will be 1080p or 720p so only those uploaded to YouTube in 4k or other non xbox one apps will work for your comparison.

Other sites are xboxoneclips.com and Xboxonedvr.com

I dont have a ps4 Pro so that’s my best suggestion.....no idea how you determine which clips are in quality mode vs performance tho.

I haven't played either but what i can say is in 4K it does look really really good (i play it on pc in 4K). Having the UI in 4K is like a game changer.

Also there are quite a few 4K screenshots in the screenshot thread on here.
But to answer your question, yes the 4K build on Xbox one X has better graphics.

X1X is better because of the Xbox version is enhanced with 4K support AA and supersampling. I dont think the Pro version has that unless its been updated since the summer.

I've not seen it running on PS4 Pro, but:

- ED on PS4 Pro has Performance or Quality options, whereas ED on Xbox One X has Performance or Quality options *and* 1080p or 4K options.

- Xbox One X is more powerful than PS4 Pro. That's simple fact, not fanboyism.

I have both and the X visuals are far crisper in 4K quality mode than pro. The framerate is fine for me but maybe a tiny bit slower than pro version on its highest quality setting.

One thing I will say is that the xbox controller has less options due to the lack of touchpad and no motion controls. If you intend to go hotas tho then that's not an issue. I have an elite controller tho and love it.

Hey dude I own both. I brought a PS4 Pro in June because my old PS4 was on its way out and a new dapper 4k t.v. at the same time. It looks sweet, runs great and I've done some mad exploration on the PS4 Pro version, I even went and brought a HOTAS too. Cut to December and I go and buy a XboneX, ED was on special for like half price with the season pass too so I picked it up.....and oh my god its like night and day. The xbonex version looks sooo good running in 4k and I play it in performance mode too. Its the little things that stand out like the text and the HUD looks super crisp. I am going to sell my HOTAS for the ps4 and get the xbone version and transfer over all my ps4 data too. Go for the xbonex version mate.
Edit Dont get me wrong if you've got the PS4 Pro version you wont be disappointed it's a great game, runs great and looks sweet but if you've got the option go for the xbonex version.

Hi everybody

Just wanted to say thank you for the replies. I have decided to get the XBox One X :)

It means starting over from scratch on EDH though :(

If it is a good as it is reported to be, then I’ll also upgrade my son’s XBox One to a One X. But, ssshhh... don’t tell him >.<

I enjoyed starting a new cmdr when I got ps4 version- it's good fun beginning again when you have the experience already (just don't transfer credits, keep your ps4 cmdr for the next upgrades, or ps5).

That is vary true. I had been playing on PC for 2 years off and on before the PS4 version came out. I got the PS4 version on day 1 of release, and I vary quickly overtook my current stats over the PC version. As you said, because I had the experience already, progessing in the early stages of the game was much easier.

Oh yes, I won’t be transferring credits as credits (including assets) is all that gets transferred over. Transferring loses you combat/exploration/trade/allegiance rank, engineers, permits, ships, stored modules, Frontier store goodies. Everything. It’s just not worth it.

Besides which, I wish to continue my Fuel Rat duties on PS4 version, and expand those duties in the XBox version. I have Fuel Ratted on PC version too, but only in extremely rare cases as the key bindings are so different. I plan on re-mapping the XBox controller keys to match those of my PS4 set up as closely as possible, so switching between the two won’t cause me any headaches. At least in theory. No, I don’t have HOTAS, I just use the ~DS4 on my PS4. I play the game from my armchair, so HOTAS is quite awkward to use, balanced on the arm of the armchair >.<

XBox One X arrives tomorrow (with a copy of EDH). I have a 55” 4K HDTV already, so am feeling quite excited.

There is a big difference between the Xbox One and the Xbox One X versions, but performance is really choppy in 4K/Quality mode. I recommend using either 4K/Performance mode or 1080p/Quality.

I'll be interested to hear how you find the difference as I currently play on both regular xbox and a ps4 pro.

I've got the green light from the boss for an X so plan on picking one up in a few months once Xmas bills and kids birthdays are out of the way ;)

This is a strange subject.
In 4k quality a few weeks back it was running choppy for me also. It wasnt nice.
But in the past 2/3 weeks it has been great.
Dont know what is causing this to happen.

Never had an issue with 4k quality mode. No lag at all even in maxed out instances with other players. It could be your internet connection.

i have a One X. I noticed a huge jump in performance from my One S. Also moving the game over from an external to the internal drive made a huge difference. I'm so looking forward to the updated planetary graphics.

I can second some of the comments regarding the Xbox One X over the Standard Xbox. Definitely a great improvement and I'm not yet running a 4k TV yet. Loading times are also much better.

Xbox one to one X

Hi Guys,
New to the forum so hello. I currently have ED on Xbox one but want to switch to one X. I presume I can just buy a console, the game and then log in under my normal username and carry on where I left off? Or does it start you from scratch? I have a lot of hours in this game is all.
Thanks in advance.
