Xbox to PC? On The Fence and Need a Push.

So I play on Xbox. I'm Rear Admiral and have the Corvette along with the Anaconda and multiple other ships. I'm also ranked up in other things. To me, I feel like I have gone a far ways in the game with a lot of hard work I do not want to lose or start over. But.

I am so close to buying a Saitek X55 and playing on PC. I have a laptop with the game on it and it can run the game on lower settings but I need a new HOTAS. I can buy the Saitek X55 and play on my old laptop and save up a bit for a nice PC. Is it worth it or should I stay on Xbox?

Thanks.

If I had it on XBox a HOTAS wouldn't be my reason. It's nice but the XBox controller isn't exactly bad. It's the next best thing right after a HOTAS. If you really dig the game and want to stay ahead though a PC is a better choice. Even Mac is trailing. Not because FD though. But at the end of the day it's a PC game with 'ports'.

Another reason would be numbers of players. I really don't know why FD doesn't put XBox and PC in the same game. There's no disadvantage whatsoever for XBox players and adding them to the same universe would be a gain for everyone.

You are right about it being a PC game. Also thinking for the future and where the game will be years down the road. Xbox? Not sure. PC? Yep.

I just bought my grandson an XBOne and Elite Dangerous, he's loving it, the XBox controller is really much more intuitive for him than my HOTAS(Thrustermaster X). I WAS planning on getting him a PC for Elite Dangerous, but his mother, my daughter, showed me what he was looking at on her laptop(he's 13 and healthy at least), and it was clear she didn't want him to have a PC, so XBOne it was. Which was nice, half the price I was going to spend for a good PC, so I was able to get more goodies for everyone else.

Downside, we can't explore the galaxy together RIGHT NOW! That's a MicroSoft thing btw, not FD, MicroSoft doesn't like letting PC and XBox game together because of the shortcomings of the XBox, it hurts the sales of the consoles, simple as that. MS IS working on allowing games on both PC and the XBOne to play together, as well as working on allowing a KB, Mouse and other peripherals to work with the XOne. I've even heard, unofficially, that MS is working on their own VR set for the XBOne, so...

I can't honestly suggest getting a PC if Elite Dangerous is your only concern, there's too many things coming for the XBOne in the near future to do that. Now, if you play OTHER games on the XBOne that are also on the PC, that would be a different story, as almost all of them look better, run better, and offer more options on the PC than the XBOne. Even Elite looks slightly better on my PC than on the XBOne, although the 75" HD tv the XBOne is on really makes that almost a moot point, oh my GOD does it look amazing on that massive screen!

I hear ya about the TV. I play on a 50" LED and it is awesome along with my home theater system the sound is amazing. You bring forth some really good points about both the PC and X1. If they made some stuff for the X1 like KB and a HOTAS that would be awesome. I would be set. I still can't justify spending all that money on a PC to play only one game. I'll probably just stay on Xbox for now and maybe see what tax season brings lol.

Every Xbox player thinks about this at one time or another. Just do what I did. Keep playing the Xbox version, buy a steam link($50) hook it up to your TV and play both.

I find I still play the Xbox more simply because I have ships. I don't know if I will ever fully swap to the PC.

I have the game on my laptop, as well, but I can only run the game at low settings and I hate using the mouse and KB. So if I really wanted to get into playing on PC I would need a HOTAS or use my Xbox controller (but that kind of defeats the purpose of having it on PC). lol

I agree with you with the ship part. On Xbox I have a lot of ships including the Corvette and Anaconda (which are awesome by the way). On PC I have a sidey :/. FD... Wheres the account cross platform play!? If I could transfer my Xbox account to PC I would jump to PC in a heart beat. There's just too many things holding me back and only one strong urge pushing me forward.

She does realise that the Xbox uses exactly the same browser as windows right? Just on a bigger screen...

I would say jump to PC. That's what I did. I first bought ED on Xbox during GPP on the assumption that both platforms would be merged and we would all play together. This is not so anymore and likely will never happen. If I had known this information beforehand, I would have bought ED on PC to begin with.

Also, in my opinion, MMOs are best on PC. Plus the graphics on PC are amazing as well.
Compared to the population of players, there is MUCH more on PC than Xbox.

I got a question.
I know there is no crossplay between xbox players and pc players, but I do understand they we all play in the same galaxy. The powerplay, bgs, exploration data, are shared between the platforms and therefore managed by the same server(s), correct?
So why can't we transfer our Commander, stats, ships etc, between Xbox and PC if we own both games? Couldn't Fdev make it as simple as logging into either platform? I understand they don't want any direct crossplay, but that shouldn't prevent them from giving us the ability to logon into both PC and Xbox with the same credentials. What am I missing here?

You would think it is just a data base load on launch thing wouldnt you? I guess there is more to it either technically or legaly.

Indeed. If I could switch between the PC game and Xbox game with the same credentials, I'd buy the PC version in a heartbeat (I already own the xbox game). As it is now, I'd never consider starting from scratch on a different platform.
I bet there are PC players that could be enticed to buy the Xbox version if they could log in with their PC credentials.

It just makes sense for Fdev to do this, it's only a database load, I can't see their being any technical or legal issues.

Build a new PC, get a HOTAS, get either an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive and play Elite Dangerous the way it should be played.

I haven't done this yet myself yet but built the first part of my VR machine - a PC with an Intel i7 6700K and 16GB of DDR4, will be getting a Pascal or Arctic Islands GPU in May or June and then either an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive in November or December.

Once I do this I'm going to end up like the kids from South Park when they were playing World Of Warcraft years ago lololol
