Xbox to pc successful Cmdr transfer

So.....

Last night I purchased ED on steam. I've been playing since beta on xb1 and felt a bit sad that I was going to lose about 1000 hrs of in game progression. The credits are less of an issue but all my ranking, engineering etc was hard to say goodbye to.

However, after many error msgs after many attempts to start a pc account with frontier (using the same email address linked to xbox) I managed to sign into my xbox a/c on the pc.

The game booted through steam but when I started playing I had my entire xbox fleet, credits and commander available to me. Whilst testing out the game on pc the local players in my instance confirmed I was indeed in a PC group, but instead of Destructo82 my Cmdr name appeared as @XBO:2533274799128561

I have filed with frontier to change my cmdr name and asked them how exactly I have managed to do this, and why if I can switch platforms they don't offer it to others. I certainly would have moved to pc sooner knowing I wouldn't lose my hard earned cmdr profile.

Anyone else seen this before?

Thanks,
Greg.

Hmm. How many hours does it say you've got in game on this 'new' account?

It seems to be his xbox account not a new one.
Bot sure if FDev can change the account name because that is tied with the xbox, but they could make some internal mapping of that UID to a real name.
That might require some Dev hours tho.

Anyway, the Pandora's Box just been cracked open

Did you ever play the portal games on your xbox as it linked the live account to steam and PC ID... long before Microsoft forced the one login for all things....
The Valve games on Console automaticly came with a STEAM version which auto created an account on steam with a rubbish ID which was junk...

This was a requirement to get the free PC versions...

I Did the same so my Steam ID is a junk name... I don't want... this could be the cause... unless you did not use steam and purchased direct from Fdev in which case ignore...
Nope you stated you purchased on steam

It would be so cool if we could play the game anywhere. If cross-progression and cross-play was implemented I would gladly buy the game a second time on PC.

It was clearly too good to last...

So, Northpin it looks like you were spot on, It didn't last long. Went to boot up this evening and sure enough I was greeted with a start page rather than a continue page. No old profile, no elite ranking, no corvette, no engineers, no money. Looks like I am going to be buzzing about in a sidewinder again. I'm not sure how I did what I did yesterday to end up flying as my xbox cmdr on PC, but for a couple of glorious hours it was all good. Interesting to know it is possible though (apparantly with no effort from fdev) which potentially means there is a future for porting cmdrs between platforms.

I don't think I'll approach Fdev over the credit transfer, once I earn enough for a deep core krait then I should be okay for cash anyway. Not looking forward to grinding engineers and ranks all over again though. I part enjoyed part tolerated that once, second time round will be 100% toleration. Any how, starting again will 1) Preserve my original cmdr on xbox and 2) Give me the opportunity to start again with a level of wisdom I didn't have first time round!

Graphite GB - Yes I did play the portal games on xbox.

Well, i'm pretty sure it's possible to have common PC/XBox commanders - not sure about the PS tho.
What is also sure is they dont want crossplatform commanders - could be waaay more reasons than simple fact they dont want to upset their PS playerbase

Got this reply from fdev ref my ticket explaining why they had to delete my xbox a/c from pc servers...

"It's a bug. We can't leave it this way as anything purchased via Microsoft has to stay on their own platform"

They were very polite and apologetic about it and I get that it's a legal issue, but not only have I purchased elite dangerous through Microsoft, I've also purchased it through steam. I don't see how my achievements rank etc could count as purchased (and presumably therefore transferable), maybe it was my paint jobs (although these are purchased through a frontier link in game).

Could be legal reasons
Could be some stupid company policy that maaaaybe has a reasoning 5 years ago, but could probably be changed these days
And not talking about store items, only about ingame progress and character persistence

I always thought that was not possible to transfer all cmdr data from an box account to pc?
FD telling porkies, like atmospheric landings etc how long do we have to wait for some update on that 10 years +more they are now liars in my book on what was promissed?
one could claim a beta backers fefund I would have thought through a small claims court for promised content but not delivered within a respectful time frame if one wanted to be funny about it

Sorry that your CMDR from Xbox didn't make the transition...
It does seem odd for FD to mention Microsoft as a reason - with the ties between Xbox and W10 being so close... but sadly we know not the technicalities.
Having recently started an alt account the knowledge gained from the main account does help in speeding progress, and at least you are already aware of engineer requirements and can plan in some of the needed 'achievements' into normal play.
