XboxOne VR HEADSET news!!!!

Even more exciting is that it'll be a MR (mixed reality) headset.

So basically VR + Hololense in one.

Huge gaming potential.

The Acer on display also has better internal hardware than either the Occulus or the Vive.

Now if only the Xbox Scorpio will also support HOTAS out of the box.... we could finally know what our PC bretheren experience on a daily basis.

We just need FDev to better optimise the Elite port on Xbox first (it really isn't very well optimised at all right now).

Very exciting times indeed though, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Is that really true? I would have thought optimising for the Xbox (and the PS4 which hopefully is going on!) would be straight forward with one fixed hardware setup. That's a bit disappointing to read if true as it doesn't bode well for PS4.

No its not true, Elite runs perfectly fine on XboxOne. Its similar to a mid range gaming pc.

And i have no doubt it will run perfectly fine on PS4 as well. Even better on The Pro, and Scorpio.

Lol..

I kinda know this already. Reason why im not hyped is because i think its a mistake to release this for xbox one.

However, for the Scorpio, really curious how that turns out.

"mixed reality content" == Augmented Reality and not Virtual Reality. Xbox One just don't have enough power for Virtual Reality. Xbox Scorpio will have enough power, so save your money for Xbox Scorpio ;)

I'm not interested in VR, but I've decided to start saving for a Scorpio. Despite my prior comments saying otherwise. :)

I've asked this before, but never really gotten an answer. What would it take for this game to go from what it is now to utilizing VR on consoles? Is it even possible? With the PS4 port in development, is PSVR compatibility a consideration for launch? Is it even anywhere on the roadmap?

I would absolutely love to have Elite in VR. It's something I've wanted to experience since day one of the game. Of course I say that never even having tried a VR demo before. I have a fear it will give me motion sickness, but I still want to experience it. PC gaming for me has gone to the wayside, which is why I play Elite on Xbox now. It's just not worth it for me to upgrade my PC and buy the VR gear just for one game. I can't even remember the last time I turned on my PC. VR on console however, intrigues me as it is my current method for consuming video game content and is used almost daily. I will most certainly be getting a Scorpio when it's released.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but it would be nice to hear whether VR on consoles is even being looked at for this game.

Yeah, Scorpio is full VR-capable. It's been generally assumed it's going to support Oculus headsets given MS' partnership there. Most likely another feature of the "play anywhere" initiative. I expect they'll also mandate cross-platform VR support in titles included under that umbrella, so players can unhook their headset from their PC, hook it up to their Scorpio, and continue playing the same VR title.

It's not hardware. Microsoft probably isn't developing a headset for Xbox. Project Scorpio will probably be compatible with all Windows 10 headsets, though, so we'll be able to use the headset of our choice. It's the software this announcement was about. Developers can get their hands on mixed reality development tools for the first time. But VR support was never in question for Project Scorpio.

The hardest parts of the battle (design & implementation) are all already done, because vr is up & running on the pc version. The remaining challenge for consoles is a technical one; how to squeeze it out of the more limited hardware, cause adding vr into the mix is a HUGE added overhead if you're not skimping heavily on graphics fidelity (you basically have to produce each image twice, once for each eye, and today's consoles tend to already struggle to produce just the one image at the res & framerate gamers expect).

Scorpio I'm sure will be capable without breaking much too sweat, ps4pro will also probably be fine, the base models of xbone & ps4 will perhaps be more doubtful.
