Xenonauts Released Finally

I have been following this game for years. It has finally been released. Anyone who like the original UFO/ XCOM will probably be interested. This project began independent development when there was no known further XCOM game coming. In a way it is a shame it wasn't finished before XCOM: Enemy Unknown came out but anyway here it is:

i loved xcom series, terror from deep etc. good times.

but did you actually play this game? is it one weekend game or serious game for many months to play? i played xcom-enemy unknown and while i liked it i finished it in 3 days! and i do not call anything a game that can be done that fast ;)

I played it quite a lot during development. It wasn't possible to really get a feel for how the long-term game would play out because of the bugs and fairly rapid development bursts that broke saves.
Since the final release I have not had a chance to play it through yet. I will post here when I have.
There are some reviews out there if you google, I expect more soon.
I know what you mean about EU - I loved the Iron-Man mode but it was not a long epic game I wanted it to be.
This link looks well-informed as far as Xenonauts vs Enemy Unknnown goes.

Good reception on metacritic from players, but no actual reviews.

Big fan of all things turn-based so I followed this one a long time, but never played. Looks a good one for the laptop.

I'm keepinganeyeon this one, I enjoyed (and in fact still haven't completed) xcom on the PS3.

It seems a bit more in depth which is good.

I think it is just over a full year that I have played this game now, through all sorts of very buggy stages and through numerous save game corruptions.

I have to say that at release, in the un-modified version, it doesn't feel finished. Base management is quite basic and is nowhere near as involved as the original games. Combat is still glitchy with many scenarios in which objects block or fail to block fire as expected, a rocket launcher can flatten an entire office building to the ground in one hit with no wreckage left. Graphically, it is in my opinion quite an ugly and out dated looking game with styles that don't mix well.

On the good side, it plays okay and the modding community are probably going to be the ones that transform the game in the long term. Without add on map packs, effects, weapon mods etc...the game you buy is repetitive and lacking.

So if you buy it, bear in mind that I think player made mods are going to make this game special. The dev team for the game have openly admitted to being burnt out on Xenonauts and their discussion to date suggests that they have had enough of the whole project. I wanted to love this game, having played the originals from floppy disk way back in the day, but so far I'm giving it a grudging 5 out of 10.

I loved Enemy Unknown for its soundtrack and epic feel. :D And I loved TFTD for just being awesome. Two great games, in different ways.
