Xwing and TIE fighter series

Sorry if there's an existing thread. BIG fan of these awesome game and bought them all including XW v TIW and XW Alliance back in the day. Original floppy versions of XW then TIE and then the CD editions. Recently tried toi reinstall XWA but it wouldn't get past the installer and the faff to get it working was too much. So I bought them in the recent Steam sale (yes I realise gog got there first) and I've been having an insane blast from the past. Really makes me want a more modern remake with the graphic fideilty of Battlefront (but NOT the flight dynamics!). XWVM looks awesome and hopefully will be as good as it looks in the vids and pictures.

Anyhoo Does anyone know where I can get a .PLT file with XW tour V unlocked? I'm far too crap at XW to complete the missions in the classic version (old floppy version) now and going through the Tours with the help of the Topace.plt files but either I've effed it up or it's because the topace's came with the BWing addon so none of that tour is available.

It's a shame FD couldn't license the cobra engine to Larry Holland to do a remake (with Disney permission).....how awesome would that be?!!

I have all the Xwing, XvT, XWing Alliance games too.
Original, with all expansions and in the original boxes.
I bought them again on GOG and again on Steam.
I only get this crazy when I think games are really good and true classics.
I did the same with the Homeworld series and the first Dawn of War series for example and with Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
All these I keep playing repeatedly even after all these years.

I wish the Star Wars IP had produced follow ups to these incredible games. Another Xwing vs Tiefighter would be a dream come true.
I always expected that Lucas Arts would someday produce an Elite-like game, because the star Wars universe is ideal for such an approach. Just imagine being able to be some kind of Han Solo in a YT1300 or a Boba Fett in a Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft.

I think a game like that would have conquered the world of spacesims. Instead the Star Wars IP deteriorated into garbage.

Ah cheers for that, downloading and will have a look see. Yeah I'm having such a blast in just the DOS versions of just XW and TIE for now, for years they were the game I played the most. I would get up for work and grab a quick 15 minute blast of 'em before going to work. XW is SO damn hard though LOL, doesn't help the DOS js calibration is as awful as I remember (using my saitek X36F and X35T). TIE is better and my brief looks at the SEs once I got hardware mode working propely have much better windows based JS support...sooooo precise!

I'm seriosouly like a kid in a candy store with these games right now!! instant transport to early 20s!!

I was reading that there was supposed to a remake that was cancelled (2009) I believe and a Millennium falcon game that was canned because they struggled with space and on foot graphics engine. SO want a new SW based proper "sim"!!!! As I say XW VM is my only hope!!



edit, just checked those plts and only up to tour 3, not even 4!! Oh well, thanks for trying!
