'Ya Know. For the Newbs. Dogfights or Minimal Trading

As a newb to Elite Dangerous, I've been having a bit of difficulty making some money. Youtube and Forum searches seem to be going one way or the other as far as dogfights in the distress call events or just trading. Has anyone actually worked out which is the fastest way forward? Or is it a mix, or dogfighting until you can get a larger cargo bay, and then trading?

Bulletin board missions are profitable right now. They tweak these things with each update, nothing balanced yet.

I just ran between aulin, I boot & eranin doing cargo missions, sold my scanner got some more space. Eventually a big payload will pop up then I hit the cargo request missions. Mostly semi and superconductors out of aulin. Shoot off to ce bootis (can be done in one go) to pick up gear and before you know it your rolling in it. Oh and keep an eye out for the gold cargo missions, if you've got the Capitol it'll bring big bucks. Again ce bootis is the place to go. Trade up for a transporter sharpish then to the cobra once your in the cobra all is gravy.

When in aulin keep an eye on the bulletin board asking for basic meds as they are usually in stock in the market and it's a quick way to make a couple of thousand
