Yaw into roll... sucks?

This is an old gripe I have, and every so often I have to reset bindings and forget about it, but with yaw into roll enabled the ship sort of twitches when attempting to roll. Its pretty damn annoying and I don't see why it does so.

Its like it starts rolling for a millisecond, stops, then starts again while simultaneously yawing slightly. As though the game can't do both actions at once?
Not sure I appreciate the value of the setting and always disable it after spending a week being annoyed and finally remembering what the cause is - thus achieving smooth rolls again - but this has been an issue for me with Elite as long as I can recall it being a "feature".

Am I the only one noticing this twitch in the ship when rolling with yaw into roll enabled?

Hmmm. Well you sure don’t need it for a controller that has 3 pitch axis... I don’t remember it being on on mine, but who knows.
I surely would have turned it off instantly before even taking off for the first time.

If I was to take a guess, I'd suppose the behavior might be because it's trying to emulate 'coordinated flight' like in an airplane simulator. It's trying to balance the amount of roll vs yaw to enable a smoother transition in the turn (in terms of an airplane, no sideslip); In ED, you have far more faster response in roll than yaw, so that might account for the control response you're getting. It shouldn't matter out in space, but hey. 🤷‍♂️

Could this have anything to do with the round ranges of motion on most analog sticks like on game controllers and such? I know I can't get full throws in the "corners" on my analog sticks. I mean as to why this might be a desirable feature, as I'm not really sure of any reason to have it.

Pretty sure it's disabled by default
100% sure it isn't since I had just deleted all my bindings a couple days prior and the problem immediately came back. I initially thought it was my stick acting up and just dealt with it for a little while until I realized what it was.

This appears to be off by default on the PC.

BTW - the other control (which someone mistook for this complaint) - "Yaw to Roll" has now been renamed "Yaw-Roll".

100% it's on by default on XBox.

I still have it activated on my MS Elite controller and i had it activated on original XBOneS controller.
From time to time i have the impulse to deactivate it, but it is still on

I lost all my bindings on the PC when I did a driver update. After redoing them, it took me a while to figure out that yaw into roll was switched on, which I hadn't done. From memory, this was starting from an empty set of bindings, not the KB&M, but I can't say for certain.

I didn't notice any problematic behaviour. I have dual sticks with yaw on the left X-axis.

OK, they're probably not directly related.

I'd guess it's to enhance the roll and pitch up to turn into or face a target, if for some reason you don't yaw that direction yourself, maybe just due to a lack of generally having significant yaw rates, so you tend not to bother with it, even though it might provide some small benefit.

Either way, it's past my nap time. o7

Im on pc. Its not off by default. There's one for FA on and one for FA off.

By default the fa off one is disabled.

I'm still not entirely sure what it does.

I've always had it turned off.
