The question is:in terms of power drawing vs shield strength, is it better to fit a normal shield + shield booster(s) or a Prismatic shield?
It really depends on the ship's configuration. My trading Anaconda has definitely benefited from A4 prismatic shields and less boosters, maintaining the same jump range and improving the shields. On my combat Python, I had some reserve power, so I was able to free one utility slot by removing one of the boosters and installing the prismatic shield generator. However, my combat Anaconda's power consumption was almost at its limits and I was unable for fit prismatic shield generator there, even A6 (one size smaller) consumes too much energy for it.
Hi CMDRs! I have some questions: when you unlock prismatic s. g., will you have it forever in Station's outfits even if you leave alliance with Aisling Duval? With prismatic you'll need less shield boosters, so wiil the shield recharge time be shorter? And last.... Can you make merits for Aisling in war zones too? Thanks
No, as soon as you leave or defect, they won't be available for you.
No, the shield recharge depends on the total energy of the shields. E.g. if you have a standard shield generator + 6 boosters that have 800MJ shields, and prismatic shield generator + 5 shield boosters that have 800MJ shields as well, the recharge time will be the same. There will be a little difference in case you disable boosters to increase the recharge rate after your shields are completely down.
I've never heard of making merits for Aisling in conflict zones.
Ok, great, so only power consumption is the drawback, that makes it very viable for Asp, Python and Anaconda. Kewl.
Not only the power consumption, but the weight as well. And the higher the class of the shields, the more noticeable will be the weight affect. E.g. A6 prismatic shields decreased the range of my Python by 0.5-0.6LY, for my combat Anaconda the difference is almost about 0.9-1LY.
