Yay - Prismatic Shields

Atleast their now their !

Power draw is around 50% higher than the bog standard 6 generator

The question is:in terms of power drawing vs shield strength, is it better to fit a normal shield + shield booster(s) or a Prismatic shield?

Havent had a chance to test it yet but I can still run 5xA0 boosters on a C8 power pack for the conda for the A6 generator. Thats with running 3 fixed beam C3

I have just stuck in the A7 generator on the same setup and had to knock down to 4xA0 shield boosters and 1 x C0.

Ill upgrade to the B8 power unit and that should allow me to run the 6xA0 boosters again.Screenshot_0004.jpgA7.jpg

24 MILLION for that shield? Jeesus, 60% more expensive than an A6 shield on my Asp and worth 4 times my ship alone.

Does it come in smaller sizes?

I don't have the numbers available, but would the Prismatic shield be an overall upgrade (shield strength, power usage, mass) for, say, a tradePython or tradeClipper who wants better protection as well as keep their class 7 slot for more cargo?

Prismatic shields give the equivalent power of a +1 class shield (actually slightly better) on a -1 slot size.
.
An A6 shield gives slightly better protection than an A7 shield, wheights the same, occupies one smaller slot size, cost 24+ millions instead of 51+ millions, and the only real drawback is ~50% more power required.
.
What is more important to you? Internal slots efficiency? or Power usage? If it's the first, prismatics are the choice. If it is the second, normal shields are your answer.

Ok, great, so only power consumption is the drawback, that makes it very viable for Asp, Python and Anaconda. Kewl.

Hi CMDRs! I have some questions: when you unlock prismatic s. g., will you have it forever in Station's outfits even if you leave alliance with Aisling Duval? With prismatic you'll need less shield boosters, so wiil the shield recharge time be shorter? And last.... Can you make merits for Aisling in war zones too? Thanks :)

It really depends on the ship's configuration. My trading Anaconda has definitely benefited from A4 prismatic shields and less boosters, maintaining the same jump range and improving the shields. On my combat Python, I had some reserve power, so I was able to free one utility slot by removing one of the boosters and installing the prismatic shield generator. However, my combat Anaconda's power consumption was almost at its limits and I was unable for fit prismatic shield generator there, even A6 (one size smaller) consumes too much energy for it.

No, as soon as you leave or defect, they won't be available for you.

No, the shield recharge depends on the total energy of the shields. E.g. if you have a standard shield generator + 6 boosters that have 800MJ shields, and prismatic shield generator + 5 shield boosters that have 800MJ shields as well, the recharge time will be the same. There will be a little difference in case you disable boosters to increase the recharge rate after your shields are completely down.

I've never heard of making merits for Aisling in conflict zones.

Not only the power consumption, but the weight as well. And the higher the class of the shields, the more noticeable will be the weight affect. E.g. A6 prismatic shields decreased the range of my Python by 0.5-0.6LY, for my combat Anaconda the difference is almost about 0.9-1LY.

No proof but from what the devs say - No, once you leave you can't pickup any more.

If you are rank 3 you can purchase them anywhere - Including places with discounts.

Think its only available in Cubeo (Aislings home)
Yes you can earn merits in a war-zone if its associated with opposition .... a regular system conflict zone isn't gonna earn merits

Better to undermine an opposing power control system via interdict and get 15 merits / kill than CZ's which earn 1 per kill

Recharge time is fixed and constant so its directly proportional (linear) with shield field strength
Extra pips don't speed it up ... so long as there is power in 'SYS' capacitor it charges at fixed rate

You are wrong. A4 shield + A0 shield boosters will give it the same strength as an A4 prismatic, but is lighter. In short A4 + more boosters is lighter than Prismatic A4. Also A4 + booster has less power draw. Prismatic shields are great for a combat anaconda or combat Python

I don't understand.......!!!! :)

To help you out here, you should have written "At last they're now there'. Although they sound the same, they have different meanings: "they're" is short for "they are", "there" denotes a place or location and "their" is used for the possession of something by someone, e.g. "I just scooped up their cargo". It's the similar to the variations of the word "where, were, we're (we are), wear, ware". If you really want to blow your mind, read up on how to use an apostrophe, see here: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/apostrophe Good luck :)

Well, if you mantain the alliance, once you have unlocked prismatic you can stop make merits and go to 0, don't you? :)
And...... if you don't have 750 merits at the end of the 4th week...... no prismatic in next weeks?
Thank again for your help!
