Yearning for some rusty / "piece of junk" paintjobs! =)

Hey!

Wouldn't it be great if they put up some "less pristine" paintjobs for sale? Maybe with some rust patches/exposed wires/missmatching plates.
I suspect there are quite a few CMDRs who would appreciate the scruffy look =)

To take it a step further: They could sell a whole "Scrap heap reject"-package!
With worn-out interior skin, stuttering engine noise, computer voice with glitching pitch modulator =D

A Ship Any Ship!?!

I support this. Although presently if you don't maintain your ship over time it will start to degrade. The paint job will become shabby ect. However yes I think there could be something like a "Stan's "Slightly Used" Ship Emporium", or "Arthur Daley's "Quality" Ship Yard" were you can buy cheap knackered old ships that barely fly at all and require lots of work to bring them back to a decent condition* :D

*Note: All sales are final, sold as seen and you were seen. :p

Could be a cheap way to a big ship if you can keep the thing together without falling apart and I guess the insurance will only return the ship (if it is lost) at the same condition it was when you last docked. So don't expect to buy some old wreck, crash it and get a shiny new to replace it.

Would definitely be great
The built in wear on paintjobs is great (although it doesnt seem to work with my storebought paintjob?) but its too easy to repair by accident.

Haha, that salesman!
Yeah, used ships for a discounted price would be a nice addition =)

Now I know why FD took my ratty paintjob away! They must've been waiting for a day like this when punters will ask to PAY for it. Please don't give em ideas.

Once upon a time, when ED was full of promises and everything was exciting, you used to be able to get your ships looking like this:

It would be just cool if the paintjob would rot away with the integrity in the repair menu.
Of course it would need to rot a little faster for that.

+1 :D

We really need tears at every corner of the Forum..

But this forum is full of tears... ohh, you mean tears, got it.

I miss my shabby beta ships as well. At least removing paintjob from 'repair all' was a small step back in the right direction. Now they need to up the wear rate. Proper grimed up paintjobs would be nice, and alternative ship interiors and sounds would be awesome.

I too support this idea and wouldn't think twice before throwing money at such a paint job or pack. Like many others, one of the first things I did was to not repair wear and tears to try and achieve the rusty look... but it didnt even come close to the trash can I was hoping for.

I hear Hutton Orbital has rusty paint jobs.

No. Seriously. Fly to Hutton. Your paint will be 0% by the time you get there and all rusty looking.

OBSERVE!

I'm not sure if it's because I repaired modules separately to start with, but if I Repair All now, it repairs bar the paint, which is nice! I like that the wear and tear is a bit more subtle now, than it was during the beta, though I suppose in the ideal 0% would be REALLY ratty (tattier than it is now) on a sliding scale that takes longer to reach? I don't know if this has been dialled back for optimising the networking, which is vaguely possible.

In the long run for me it would be great to add "carbon scoring" (on top of current damage per light year) showing marks from laser and projectile gunfire (bullet holes!) perhaps as a second layer? Planet landing (later) might also cause heat effects from atmospherics around the engine and thrusters, if taking it to the final level.

I really like the "custom wiring idea", almost as if the pilot has done a few mods of his own ..

.. though I think FD will want to be a bit careful with it. ALL the textures on the exterior of ships are actually 3D modelled, a 2D texture would need "tasteful" handling to look realistic, rather than being one dimensional against the ship. This means fine wires really (would you see them?) and FD could be wary.

One alternative could also be "not very well painted in the first place" eg. the whole paint, when new, is patchy .. and so over time, with wear added, you could get the effect the OP asks for?
