... Killed an Anaconda with my (stage 1) Viper. 2 G1 Burst lasers and 2 G1 Multi-Cannons. Anaconda pilot was wanted and rated competent. The Anaconda was loaded with a multitude of multi-cannons and when it started shooting the sky filled with tracers - looked like a dang blizzard of fire out there.
Now - that may not sound like a big deal to some - especially you guys that been playing ED forever but it was a big deal to me who's only been doing it now for a little more than a couple of weeks. Hard, hard battle with some lessons learned.
1) Attack the things from the side 'cuz they're loaded for bear on the front and rear.
2) They are so slow and unmaneuverable don't waste pips in ENG unless you need to hit boost for some reason and only put them in ENG for that reason and unload the pips out of ENG when done boosting.
3) Go for the power plant. When it's gone the thing blows up. Hull way too big to go for a hull kill - well - maybe not if one has bigger more powerful weapons. When that sucker finally blew up when the power plant went to zero it still had 40+% hull integrity.
4) Don't be afraid/too proud to temporarily disengage. My shields went down once and I don't have shield cell banks - cost too much and no room for 'em anyway. Because I chose to stick it out I got shot up enough that my hull integrity went down to 70%. That's when I disengaged and fled to a range the thing couldn't shoot me while my shields came back up and then I reengaged.
I don't know how long the battle lasted but it seemed like forever - took at least 20 minutes - maybe 30 and when that big sucker finally blew up I shouted out something that I can't say here lest the mods wield their mighty ban hammers on me.
Add to it that there were other ships continuously showing up and getting in the way and the stupid cops who weren't helping and it's a battle I won't soon forget.
OH...
And the 32K bounty wasn't bad either. Which come to think of it seems strange. I've killed Cobras and Vipers that brought in 37K a couple of times. Would have thought an Anaconda would have been worth quite a bit more.
