I have been at Yembo for a couple of days getting involved in the "community sourcing" project that is currently ongoing and whilst it is a good start it is very much that, a start.
First of all it is just a trading hot-spot, nothing more.
No dedicated missions for those signed up, nothing that isn't pretty much the same as trading anywhere else.
Except of course as we are part of an ongoing project there is a special reward system in place for those who choose to take part. Now I can only recount my personal tally with regards to this and I would guess I am most probably not the fastest turn around for trading so my meager achievements should be pretty easy to surpass.
In a total of around 3 hours I moved 1649 tonnes of metal to Yembo (+3 tonnes of silver on a BB mission but that didn't count towards the community goal). That was a total of 6 trips (told ya I was slow) with a profit of a little over 2100 per tonne (round trip). So a decent trade rate, not spectacular but a decent workhorse rate as far as I am concerned. I am currently in the top 40% tier of contributors.
With the rewards system in place that will mean a 15000 cr bonus and a 5% discount on station services for 11 days. That is just awesome, I mean I get a bonus of less than 5% of the PROFIT on a single run and a chance to make use of the station services at a discount (the station btw is so far off my normal play area that I seriously doubt I will see it again after today)
Like I said at the top, this is a start and if I am honest I think its a good one but it needs some life injected into it, it needs something to make it different.
One thing I would suggest is in need of a serious review is the reward system. In my opinion it should be something unusual, something different, something that says 6 months down the line "I WAS THERE". I would doubt that the current rewards would even cover my reduced income from doing it (if I wanted to grind out a trade in one location there are better places to do it than Yembo)
At the time I am posting this there are 4545 players signed up to this project and after a few hours and 6 runs I am placed in the top 40% (hit that after 4 runs but not moved higher to next tier). Whilst I don't have any real numbers other than those they are very suggestive of one thing, people are heading over for an expanded gameplay experience and finding it lacking and leaving.
Personally I believe the reward system is the biggest letdown, if there was a decal that said I got involved or perhaps a Yembo Interstellar company paintjob with different colours for the different tiers I would most likely stay regardless of the "same as anywhere else" trading as I would at least have something only 4545 others could get and with a high enough tier rating perhaps only a few hundred would have. As it stands I get a pittifully low bonus (even the best bonus is less than the profit from a single run) and a discount I will most likely never use except once to do a repair and reload prior to leaving.
I also think the inclusion of BB missions specifically for those signed up such as shopping lists with awkward selections of materials on that would give you double or triple the "mass donated" as a bonus would perhaps allow the smaller (T6/T7/Asp) traders a window at getting towards the top of the pile.
I hope the type of events develop and grow as they would make a welcome addition to the framework we have but I do feel they need to be more than just play your regular game but do it in a different system for a while.
