Yes its that thread - Most Excellent game ever including Elite and Elite Dangerous

Played Eve online for 9 years. Some really great moments in that game. My favourite game has got to be the recent witcher 3. 115 hours in the first playthrough just started a second playthrough. Just incredible overall.

Sorry but ED in its current state and the path it's on...well it'll be lucky to get reinstalled ever again. I can think of at least a dozen games I've enjoyed more than ED sadly.

I've probably played more WoW than anything, but if I had to go for one game it would be the original Quake, and it's online variant Quakeworld.

The first FPS game with full 3D environments, and one of the first internet playable games back when most people had dial-up connections and the lucky few had ISDN or a University connection. It was a great time for gaming

This. Modern gamers would baulk at the sheer speed and frenetic nature of that game. Pure class. I went and watched some videos on YouTube and it still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. THe sound and feel of that rocket launcher was something else.

I remember playing the follow up and being so disappointed that they ramped down the speed by a factor of 100. :(

Did you play on Barrysworld? :)

Absolutely, it was the very definition of twitch-gaming...running along and flicking the mouse to do 180s or fire shots down a corridor. It just doesn't compare on a console which is where, sadly, most FPS games are played these days.

The RL meta was so much fun. Apart from the sequels being slower I also didn't like the addition of the Rail Gun, it became too tactical and less gung-ho which was less fun IMO. Did you ever play the Rocket Arena mod? That was pretty cool too.

Video brings back memories...dm3 - greatest map ever :)

In fact all of the original dm1-6 maps had awesome gameplay in their own ways.

Yup, played on Barrysworld. Played the first few seasons of the UKCL and MCW leagues too! Good times

You know there is a project that still runs servers and competitions? http://www.quakeworld.nu/

Homeworld. Stately, beautiful and clever. Groundbreaking, obviously.

X3 Reunion probably soaked up more hours than was reasonable, though for good reason. Brilliant ships, interesting universe.

Elite - full of potential, not always realised - though I remain up to the hilt in it so far.

I can't choose 1.

Elite: Dangerous (obviously) - Flawed but brilliant and the game I've been waiting 20 odd years for. Despite its issues it's the best first person spaceship game there's been for me.

Civilisation - I can't choose one, they've all been special in their time. 'Cept Beyond Space or whatever, that disappointed me.

Homeworld - Best RTS space game there is.

These are the games I keep coming back to months or years later. XCom gets an honourable fourth place.
