(Yet another) Crime and Punishment idea

Just a short post / idea this one, so easy to get the gist, etc.

So, we have the problem wherein the amount of Bounty that is accrued when killing another player is particularly unrealistic in comparison to the loss experienced (in terms of monetary value).
It has been suggested that the bounty should be increased to match this, but a reasonable counter-argument is commanders abusing this to make money. (Not to mention RWT aspects)

So, instead, I was thinking - what if the murderer had a separate bounty that equalled the sum of the ship lost (minus insurance, or whatever) which was only redeemable by the original victim.
They then had a good encouragement to "take the fight back to the pirate" and keep playing. The sense of loss is kept, but softened by the possibility of getting it back (or possibly losing even more) - it's a gamble, but it's still a chance to get back in the game.

And it's a good way to get your friends to come and help you get your own back too.

It's effectively the "blue shell" option to help balance the one-sidedness of the winer over the loser.
It's also unabusable since you couldn't make more money than the original worth of your ship (excl insurance payouts etc).

It's still just an idea, but I thought I'd see what others thought about it :D

The reward which a bounty hunter can hope to receive after claiming a bounty is capped (at least in a single jurisdiction) to a certain value (I hear 1mil, 1.5mil).

In other words, you can punish criminals with hundreds of millions of credits in legacy fines in a jurisdiction, but the guy claiming that bounty is only getting 1.5mil tops.

Nice idea assuming the PKer is not some overclocked ship with engineer upgrades up the gazoo. If thats the case, it is highly unlikely that a trader will either have the a)Money b) skill c) to get a ship that will stand up to the aggressor.

Pre engineers this might have worked, but now PKers are generaly super specced and the fight is over far too quickly and you end up losing more.
On the other hand it would be interesting to allow you to sell that bounty to another player who maybe able to go deal with them.
Would also be good that the bounty is only reduced by the rebuy on the ship they are in, thus stopping them from changing to sidey and going "oh woe is me I died in a sidey and dont have to rebuy it" as they laugh their way to the bank.

Yeah - I realise that the engineering thing has swayed things somewhat. I don't know how that could / would be countered.
Offering the bounty to a "friend" to help would probably have to work in a similar way to shared rewards in Wings to prevent abuse (ie - giving bounties away as payment for RWT etc)

That said, if the engineer update has unblanaced things so considerably, are FD aware of this? Is it something they are looking to rectify?

Yep - so this is the part which doesn't help the victim get back into the game - which is what I'm hoping would be addressed by this change. :D
