yet another Volture thread :-)

yet another Vulture thread :)

*Sorry... "Vulture"... can't edit the thread title.

Yesterday I switched from my loved A-fitted Cobra with Beams and small Multis to the Vulture.

My first impression:
Wow... heavier than a Cobra as nimble as a Viper.
And uh... by by Beams... Class 3 needs too much power.

I figured out this loadout: <Vulture>

Power is on the edge with gimbaled Pulses, but they have much more firepower than my Cobra with 2/2/1/1
I think an D3 life support will still fit in the power grid to spare 3 tons, but i found none yet.

Made 2 millions in my first hour @Jupiter RES... love ist.
And with the 16 tons cargo, i can still smuggle all missions.

I miss the jump range and the speed of the Cobra a bit, but the Vulture is so much more powerful in combat, that's an acceptable tradeoff.

2 pulse lasers?

I've always used one fixed C3 beam, and one gimballed C3 canon to mash the hull. Works great. I think the one beam does more damage than the 2 pulses, but I'm not sure though.

Pulse Lasers work well against shields and hull which is why a lot of Vulture pilots use them (including me). Someone did some analysis that proved it was one of the best combinations for attacking shields, modules and hull as each have their own modifiers. But yes Beams for shields and multi-cannons for modules will do you alright.

The 2 Pulse can fire nearly forever. And with the turn rate of the Volture with A5 thrusters you can stay on the the target all the time.
With my not so nimble Cobra I had pauses to recharge my beams until the target is in firing arc again. And i don't like the delay of the larger Multis or the few ammo of the cannons.

My build
Swaps out a pulse for a cannon. Still has lots of bite, but it frees up a huge amount of power to run the boosted A5 shield.

*fewer games, less embarrassment all round.

Since we're only referring to one game, and the time spent on it compared to learning how to spell vulture correctly, less applies. If we were talking about the number of games he was playing, you'd be correct, because we'd be referring to a countable amount. Please, if you're going to take on a grammar 'fascist' like me, one who's now spent fifteen years studying, criticising and writing literature, you are going to have to get on my level. ^_^

I recommend going for B thrusters, the difference in the Vulture is negligible, but the additional power can be useful on a better shield cell bank (A4) and/or a Shield Booster.

have fun,

And still not hit it on the first try... ;-)

PS: english is not my native language... so "Volture" didn't hurt my eyes instantly.
Here in Germany we say "Geier" :D

Then less gaming would have been more accurate.

I thought it was a Voltaire thread. I mean if Voltaire threads didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent them. ;)

All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds.

The Op's loadout seems to have a number of items in low priority which will be needed in normal flight. It looks like the weapons will have to be retracted to fire chaff or a shield cell, is that right? I flew with a lower priority shield cell for a while and it gets to be a pain after a while. And will the scanners work with that configuration?

Nope... Only prio 3 (Wake scanner, cargo hatch and frameshift stuff) is offline while weapons are deployed.
The KWS works and is on fire group 2 with a latched button, so it's always on in fight.
And because FD want us to waste a whole fire group to a tiny scanner, i prefer a double laser loadout.
