Horizons Yippie! Finally made it to Combat Elite

Hi fellow Cmdrs,

I thought that I would share my experience of my journey through the game. I have just ranked up to Combat Elite having been Explorer Elite for about 6 months. I have only a Trade rank of Merchant so I guess I still have a ways to go before doing the triple.

Amazingly I bought the game (pre Horizons) on the 11th July 2015 (checked the Frontier store) and I reached CE on the 10th July 2017 so I have been playing the game on and off for exactly 2 years. My 'in game' time is 4 weeks, 1 day and 22 hours so about 30 days. I am sure many of you fellow Elitists have reached CE much quicker but I did not try to grind for goals too much. Having said that once I got to about 80% Deadly I did push for it.

For all the Cmdrs that have just turned Deadly and for anyone else that is interested I kept a log of the last 20% of kills. Every 1% took between 25 and 27 kills on average ranging from expert to Elite. I focussed my efforts mainly in Haz Res sites and for me moving from Deadly to Elite it took between 2500 and 2700 kills!

Throughout the game I have only made 16 insurance claims (which I think is pretty amazing) playing in the open and in private groups. It would have been 15 but I forgot to increase my life support in my Anaconda and ran out of o2 right outside the letterbox....Kaboom! I should have known better as I learned that mistake in a Vulture where the canopy seems to be made of rice paper!

I had hoped for some fireworks or something when I got the message but the only reward seems to be the Founders World permit (which I had anyway for some reason) and Elite ship and suit decals. I think we should get a nice reward from the store like a credit for ship kits or coloured lasers etc. Or do you think I am asking too much?

Altogether a great game which I will keep playing as I want to rank up to get a Corvette. I played the original Elite back in 1984 but only managed to reach deadly then as I had 2 young children taking up my time, so you could say it has taken me almost 33 years to reach hallowed ground ha ha!

Sorry for waffling on a bit but us 63 year olds tend to do that when we get excited!

Fly safe Cmdrs o7

Cheers, GD

Congratulations.

I've been playing it about the same amount of time (bought at kickstarter), but am nowhere near your achievement, hoping to get there 'Soon'.

Well done, and happy flying.

Congrats, I got most of my combat ranking in the first CG I ever participated in, it was in a CZ somewhere, and in the week of the CG I went from Expert or Master to 10% short of Elite after turning in 110 mil in combat bonds and making it to the top 10. That was a lot of killing, did most of it in my Vulture, but I was new to the game at the time and didn't have much, just an AspX and CobraIII. But was able to purchase a Python and FDL, and kit them out with the proceeds from the bonds.

Congrats CMDR! o7

For myself, I joined at Prime Beta, Elite Exploration and Trading (in that order), King and Admiral blah blah and the same age as you... frankly I suck the big one at combat (probably due to a) my slower reaction time and b) not being able to get my head around all the engineering upgrades or whatever the yoof of today are calling the 'current meta', whatever that is) and all my 62% Competent combat rating has come from NPC interdictions; I have absolutely NO interest in PvP and always play Möbius/Solo - in the bubble anyway. I suppose I ought to get on and complete the triple but with limited time to play I'm tempted by hauling a tanked up 'Conda or Corvette to a Compromised Nav Beacon or some such to just blast the NPC Elites away - but that doesn't seem like really earning the badge to me. I earned my Elite Explorer by visiting the far side of the galaxy, Sag A*, etc and I'm happy with that. I wouldn't be if I'd just run (quite) a few pax missions, it's a personal thing and no disrespect intended to those who got their badge that way; the game mechanics are the game mechanics after all (my son would vehemently disagree, after he discovered my wife was buying Pokemon Go coins and he couldn't, so she was CHEATING!!! LOL).

Not sure what I'm trying to say here - other than perhaps becoming Elite (in whatever category) has become too easy? Though at the end of the day we players have to recognise that Frontier have a business to run in order for us to play the game and making progression too difficult or too long is going to send people elsewhere. But yes, some sort of in-game fanfare/recognition would be nice, other than the fawning "It's an honour to meet you Commander" you get from station NPCs - I'm assuming that that 'honour' is reserved for Elites? Not sure what though; there's an awful lot of us Elites around now!

Hi Commander Grendahl,

Nice to speak to a fellow silver surfer! I may well meet you in the Mobius group as I do play in there quite a lot. I must admit although getting the combat rank was extremely difficult and time consuming I kind of stumbled my way through to Explorer Elite mainly by doing passenger missions. They took me to many places but all in the bubble as I was building up credits. Before I knew it da da! I am a so called Explorer, not that I am complaining. I must make a really long trip one day. My Asp X will do 42LY jumps after all.

Cheers, GD

Also an older guy. Congrats! I myself am at 34% Deadly with Elite status in exploration and trading. After I finish up getting to triple Elite I want to take a trip out to Colonia. Great thing about this game is there is always something else to try out. Again Congrats.

Congratulations Commander - I'm nowhere near that rank, I'm currently working on my Exploration Rank being Pioneer 41% so took a long range passenger mission out to the relative vicinity of Colonia (the passenger bailed as a dinged the ship landing on a 2.4G World), So I'm heading back scanning every system I drop into fully).

Congratulations Druce,

Right on commander!

Things do tend to get a little asymptotic as you're approaching your prize. I'm experiencing that now as I'm going for my Elite in trading.

Then after that I'll be going for my triple Elite
... then quadruple Elite <grin>
