Newcomer / Intro Yo ho ho, and a hold full of rum

Mornin' All,
The name is Cannabal, and I'm new to Harma System trying to eke out a living running some cargo with my bird the Rumrunner.
Pleased to make your acquaintance!

Pleasantries now taken care of (Ha Ha!) I was wondering if I might ask for a little help.
Worry not, it won't cost you anything more than a moment of your time as I'm just looking for a little advice.

Long story short, in my naivety I jumped the gun when I saw a "rare commodity" listed for sale on Gabriel and filled my hold with what I could.
The problem is that I've now got 24 units of Harma Silver Sea Rum in my hold and I'm having a devil of a time trying to unload it.

Of the 4 systems I've hit so far the first 2 wouldn't offer a penny for it, the 3rd was offering less than half of what I bought it for, and the 4th was, like the first 2 ... completely disinterested.
I've consulted both my inventory panel and the galactic map in order to find a market and was surprised (and confused) to see that Harma Silver Sea Rum doesn't exist on the list of tradable goods.

Any suggestions / advice on where I can make a profit would be appreciated.

Thx in Adv
Cannabal

Welcome aboard commander.

When I read your post I thought I'll just bop on over to EDDB, run a quick search, and be back in a flash to save the day.

But it seems there is nowhere that will buy it. Change the buy/sell dropdown to sell, and no results. Not sure where you need to go.

That’s weird. Rare goods are supposed to be worth more as distance increases from the source. And value stops increasing significantly somewhere beyond 150LY from source. Nobody wants it, huh? All I can suggest is traveling a little farther from where you bought it. I know there are fleet carriers that specialize in rare goods but you may have to do some research to find one of those.

Maybe as a rare it doesn't show on EDDB because of the proximity fluctuation? Because the sell price changes due to where you got it from?

You know, rum's my thing. I rarely fly Elite without some Captain close at hand. I'll take it off your hands for 10,000 per ton. 24t of rum should last a while.

Is Rackham's Peak still offering top prices for alcohol? Needs a fleet carrier to get there however.

The stations that won't buy might be of a government type that forbids alcohol. The low prices, as noted above, are likely because they're close to Harma.

Hmmm... according to the Wiki, Harma Silver Sea Rum is a Legal Drug/Rare Commodity. To sell it, you'll need to find a place that isn't prohibiting trade in legal drugs. To make a profit with rares, you'll need to put some distances between you and the place you bought the stuff.

Graphic is not by me, just what cropped up in a Google search - but it looks reasonable.
So find a liberal system >160 ly away and sell the stuff.

While you are flying the ~160Ly to sell your cargo don’t get too worried by the red warning messages that will come up on some jumps it just means you cargo is illegal in that system which is usually only an issue if you need to dock.

Wow! Thanks, All, for the feedback.
Muchly Appreciated!
I was able to offload it for a small profit about 97Ly from Harma.

Sinisalo, I wish I saw your note earlier. if you're still looking to top your stores let me know where would I need to deliver it... and how much would you want? I've got a couple of passenger cabins I can swap out for cargo space if needed. ;)

Thanks mate, but that was just in jest. I had visions of 24t of rum behind my bar. Well-stocked, you know?

Glad you worked it out.

Now you have sold the cargo is probably a suitably annoying time to mention that most rare goods when taken to the 160Ly limit and beyond sell for something in the order of 10,000 - 15,000 credits profit per tonne.

It's not showing up on Inara either. It does show up on EDSM, however that site doesn't seem to have anything set up for trading since it's mainly for exploration.
