General / Off-Topic Yogscast Kickstarter Game - Cancelled

I do think this is going to happen again and again as popular youtube personalities license their names out for these 'make your own game' ideas.

I suspect that the Tobuscus game is likely to go the same way due to the utter lack of information from the developer. Though there is no indication of it.

Both projects surpassed the initial funding by some margins, both promised an amazing game, both dropped off the radar with the updates becoming fewer and fewer until its now a quick whisper.

Until Yogscast who now 'distance' themselves from their developer announced its cancellation. So to all those backers what are they left with? A hollow offer of another game, an open hand of help? Actually they have actually attempted to do quite a bit for their backers.. short of refunds.
Last week we announced that everyone concerned will get a copy of TUG. Nerd Kingdom's game is still in alpha but is shaping up to be everything we wanted Yogventures to be. In addition, we have organised for Nerd Kingdom to have the source code, assets and designs of Yogventures to ensure we're making best use of Winterkewl's work.

For the Yogventures Kickstarter backers the physical rewards should already have been received and we're happy for people to contact us at yogventures@yogscast.com if any are missing so we can look into it for them.

For those rewards that were specifically based on in-game items we're working with Nerd Kingdom to try and match them as closely as possible and will communicate that directly to the people concerned and take any feedback on board.

We also hope to be able to announce other games and fun stuff for the backers and buyers of Yogventures over the summer.

I dare say this will go on and on for some time as people begin to realise how shaky Kickstarter is EVEN with a so called big branded supported project.

I backed both Yogscast, and Tobuscus for my son, and it doesn't bother me that these dream games are behind by months or (dead), as it was part of the fun to be involved in the process of getting them to the line.

I just worry about people who sell a kidney to be involved and end up with nothing but a game they didn't want that may cost significantly less than their pledge.

I am so happy to have backed Elite as there is so much to confirm where they are, Star Citizen worries me due to its sheer scale and again promising a level of gaming as yet unseen. Can they do it?

I can't say I am greatly surprised but its worth remembering that not all KS projects are going to deliver - but at least with ED we knew team Frontier would deliver. :D

This news doesn't exactly make me dislike Yogscast Ltd. more than I already did - but my opinion of the group was already quite low. In a weird way they've got that shady corporation vibe about them. They do paid-for promo content, distinguishing it from their normal content only in the vaguest terms, and that because they're legally obliged to.

Feel bad for the people who got burned though, and hope it doesn't have too much of a bad effect on Kickstarters for games.
