"You are about to launch with no active crew"

Please, please, please can we have a warning added as follows:
  • If ship has fighter hangar fitted, and...
  • If there are no crew (or none set as active), and...
  • If you're about to launch.

If all three criteria are met, a simple warning saying that you're about to launch with no active crew would be welcome. I know there is already a warning given when the crew become inactive but this is often several minutes before I launch and I don't always remember to go into the crew menu after I've completed my business at the station, before I head out.

Thanks

YES! Been meaning to moan about this a number of times, so thank you for posting. Also a possible solution if one has crew; make the best available pilot automatically active.

Just wanted to say thank you to the people who have repped me, very kind, but I wonder if people might also just post something here too as Fdev can't see my replog* so won't be aware that others might like to see this added as well.

*Well, they probably could see my replog if they wanted, I just mean that posting a "+1" or something quick here is a better way to show them if there is wider support for this change. Thank you.

You're given a warning when you return to menu with a hangar and no crew. Go sort your crew out then, or don't forget. I don't want my game filled with billions of pop-up reminders because some people cannot play the game without being hand held through every button press.

Do you regularly launch in a ship equipped with a fighter hangar without crew set as active, then? Because as per the three criteria I set out above this message would not appear (ever) for anyone that didn't have a fighter hangar installed.

And if you do then I'd argue that maybe you don't need that hangar in there and could use the space better.

Also your use of 'billions' suggests you might be prone to overreacting a little ;)

I often use fighters, regularly get the message because I frequently change ship and hangars around; however when I see the prompt telling me to set my crew...I go and set my crew.

Even if we implemented another prompt, I'm sure there'd still be a few people complaining you should have the launch button blanked out if you don't have crew or something. Somepoint you just gotta realise there's no cure for stupid.

Oh, and that was hyperbole, not overreaction ;)

Right, sure, but that's not what I asked you. The question I asked you was do you regularly launch WITH a hangar installed but WITHOUT any crew?

Do you?

If you do, and you do it intentionally because you like to have fighters onboard but you never use NPC pilots and always want to pilot yourself, leaving your main ship completely unmanned... If that is genuinely your use case then yes, you might be in the small minority of people that would be inconvenienced by my suggestion in the opening post. So fine, I take your point (although I still think 'billions' is a wild exaggeration).

If, however, you have crew and remember to set them active (which you've proudly proclaimed you always remember to do) then you would never see the message I proposed at all.

Lastly, specifically responding to this point you made:

when I see the prompt telling me to set my crew...I go and set my crew

I don't do that because I hire and fire crew to avoid paying them millions after each profitable run I make. So my steps are - dock, fire crew (where the message appears), hand in missions / go about my business, refuel, repair, any outfitting, take on new missions and then launch. And yes, maybe it's my old age but I often forget to re-hire a new crew member before launching. So instead of that message appearing immediately after I fire I'd like to move it to just before launching. Or it doesn't need to be a message, could be some kind of visual indicator on the dash or something. As long as it prompts me to correct the mistake before I fly off I'd like that a lot.

Yes - when I want to multicrew without bringing a money sucker.

If you're going to play the system to avoid paying, I think the least amount of concession you can make is remembering to set the crew you aren't going to pay ;)

Heh. That's a fair point and I can't argue with that, I guess. :)

I still want my reminder though, please, Fdev.
