You Are Going To Need A Materials Collection Ship.

You will need a frame wake scanner, a collector limpet controller, cargo hold for limpets, and maybe an SRV.

This means ships with lots of slots, and lots of utility mounts.

Cobra 4 and Python are obvious choices. What's yours?

Should be doable in a Cobra III I’d have thought. That’s what I’ll probably end up using, although a general purpose mat-gatherer Python is tempting.

Just finished engineering a type 7 for this exact purpose. Reading the notes from some guys in beta, I saw that material drops have gone from three per pickup to one. Figured the writing was on the wall. On the plus side, I'll finally have a reason to take the ship out of dock every now and again.

I'll probably stick with my Viper IV explorer. Good maneuverability means I don't need limpets to collect material. Also the its footprint is tiny, meaning I can have it land almost anywhere.

I use DBX for this role. Can land anywhere and with 50+ Ly jump can bring you anywhere in mere minutes. If I need to go on DWE hunt, I mount long-range wake scanner (otherwise, I leave it at home). It does not need collector limpets - HGEs can be cleaned manually, and there's Dav's Hope for other materials.

I'll use whatever I happen to be flying at the time (with the possible exception of the T7).
I never had a problem collecting mats just by playing the game before, so nothing much is going to change for me.

I have an Adder for this.
Performance drives let it zip around wake-scanning and it's quick enough to cargo scoop the few materials you actually want.
In 3.0 terms I suppose I'd just be focusing on the rare mats to trade down; there's no way I'm wasting the (enormous when added up) time to pick up everything.

I’m using a light weight Cutter, combat fitted weapons, 2,100 mj shields, 28.75 LY jump range unladen, and 473 m/s boost speed. I’ve been doing CZ’s and launching limpets after I get 3-5 kills.

I have to shield tank and use SCB’s in my military slots.

I just finished doing the FSD and Thrusters in Beta, and this ship rocks.

Why do you need everything at once? Just put the modules you need at the moment, and sell them (for the buying price after all) afterwards. Most materials don't need a wake scanner, for example. And hangar and limpet controller could be swapped as needed (I'm fine without the latter).

I use an Asp X, I don't ever use collector limpets though for gathering mats - all manual, although just going out in my Clipper for a change after pharmaceutical isolators.
