You are here (maybe)

Zelada system?

not the same configuration of stars&planet obviously :

Hey nicomak

tried to rep you that is so cool, well found mate. I noticed on one of the streams that this was called the Zelda system, and that the Federation were looking into it. Cool beans

There is a war out there ...

bellow "mimosa", ther's a little 'ι' (a iota actualy, not an 'i')

the game says iota cruXis, i dont know if that makes a difference but i think it's the same as iota cruCis.

that's in the "Southern Cross" or "Crux" constellation

"Hey Bruce, you wanna invite Zelada and Iota around for a barbie at Mrs Mangle's place this arvo?"

That's the kind of thing they say on Ozzy soaps you see?

Now we "know"(it may only be so in the alpha) that Zelada is one light year away from iota cruxis ;)
This sounds quite close actually, i would expect stars to be at least 2 or 3 lights away minimum, A. Centauri is between 4 and 5 LY away from Sol i think

BTW hello Cmdr Nux ;)

200 yl cube in this zone could be the alpha 4 playtest.

how many stars are here ?

that's what i posted elsewhere but it's just as relevent here if not more.

my guess is less than 10, maybe 4 or 5
we already have
-iota crucis aka iota cruxis(dont know why it's x in the game)
-zelada, 1 LY away from iota cruxis which is really close, i dont know if alpha 4 will "push" it further away though.
All which is now in the game is potentially alterable.

To make you feel what 200 LY^3 is :

if the shape is a sphere, (4/3)pi*r^3=200 => r=3.6LY

3.6LY = 1.1 pc(parsec) :

734560SpaceEngine20140411164657064.jpg

centered on iota crucis in space Engine. RS stands for random stars, none are real except for iota cruxis.

sol is 38.211pc = 124.63ly away from iota cruxis.

iirc sectors are 10*10*10 = 1000 LY^3
or 5 times the A4 volume.

10LY = 3.0660 pc

http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/lightyears-to-parsecs.htm

a sphere : r = 3.63 LY <==> 2r = 7.26 LY
a cube : s^3 = 200 => s = 5.85LY

we dont know the exact shape, and we dont even know if it's centered on a system or in some random point[only that it's far from Earth, like around iota crucis for instance]a sphere with a radius of 3.63LY would not even reach alpha centauri if it were centered on earth, but if you put it in between the two, 7.26LY>4.4LY so Both Sol and Alpha centauri would be inside.
i expect something more cubic rather than a sphere though.

for all we know, iota crucis or zelada may not be at the center of that region, if it's only near those 2.

i count 9 stars there.

but how many of them are inhabited ?
and how many of them will be binary system etc.. ?

anyhow 9 systems to explore and test are good

those as i said are randomly generated(Random Star).
in Space engine at least you have to go a bit futher away to see other real stars(more real stars may exist around there though)

there is HIP 60644 at 2.5parsec from iota crucis
and HIP 64478 at 2.9 pc.

too far away imo to be located close enough. my guess is that most stars in that region will be procedurally generated.

Iota crucis is supposed to be a binary, a giant orange star and a smaller white one.

in the original frontier elite2 map i found more or less 10 systems in that region... but as you explained, everything can be different now...

so.. what do you think ? more or less than 5 systems to explore, to test, etc..?

What is amazing is that NOBODY thought to look before now.

Good point :eek:

Anyway, I'm not too late...just looked in the Frontier Elite 2 'Gazetteer' booklet (that came with the Amiga version).

Quote.
"The Zelada system was colonised at roughly the same time as Ququve, but by a fundamentalist religious sect, looking for a world to conduct a penance for humanity".
End quote.

Damn!...this usually means no trade in 'interesting goods', no booze, and probably a ruddy 'special permit' to even land anywhere! :eek:

Reading on though...."Banditry and hi-jacking" seems to be rife....interesting! :cool:
I wonder if anything has changed since then....:D

Jack :)

A lot has changed since FE2. In Alpha 3.x, you'll find that the space station is firmly under Federation control. The closest system, Iota Cruxis is a contested area where you might find pirates attacking a crippled Federation dreadnaught or pitched battles between mercenaries aligned to either the Empire or the Federation. There is also an asteroid mining operation being carried out by the Mastopolis corporation. Banditry is still rife;)

Dont know how much similar it will be to its Space Engine version :

Cool images everyone. :cool:

What software are you using nicomak, to create those nice star plots?

memnoch commented (2/3/14) about getting a T-shirt idea but did not elaborate. I thought a design, on black of course, of a close up of the cockpit sensor display showing ...

a) surrounded by red "hokey sticks" with comment, "Deploy hard points."
