People with money to burn. Personally I wouldn't do it, but 4 mill is a drop in the ocean to many of us. I lost 40 mill in a Conda a few months back, just messing about in a Combat zone.
If they made donations for a good cause, like freeing slaves, or free booze for everyone in the station, I'd be happy to donate 4 mill

It´s kind of pointless. Better to collect 10 million in bounties and return those to the faction station. The boost would have to be colossal to be worth that much dosh. Not sure if Power Play gives more incentive to donate by the access on the perks (although it did sound that their rep system is handled bit differently).

my game is not to try and get into the largest ships, im pretty happy whit my vultures and condas.
my game is to try and shape the galaxy.
if didn't do missions like this the game would be pretty short lived for me as i have no interest to progress further down the ship line.
(i did it in gamma/beta, and i think the large ships are slow and boring, not gonna get into them again)

I did. Yesterday.
As a result I now have the highest rank in both the Federation and Imperial navy.
It's all a matter of perspective. If you have an Anaconda 4 million is less than one hour of trading. Compared to how much time it would take to get the same reputation via conventional missions the advantage is obvious.
Actually now that I think about it, this may be the best mission in the game at the moment. At least as far as time invested vs. benefit gained goes.

Actually in the elite universe that would be a wonderful way of making creds. I guess you are an imperial ? well the imperial like other superpowers and rich worlds grow new limbs and organs at times if need be , so you could by lore donate your kidney to poor worlds then get a new one , donate , get a new one , donate and the cycle goes on for ever
