Newcomer / Intro You earn nothing for ranking up in the Pilots Federation.

So for any newcomers wondering what might happen if you take the time to rank up the Superpower Reputation to Allied status, you don't get anything from it.

I had the Superpower Reputation maxed out yesterday, and when i logged in today, it had dropped the amount you see missing in the bar. Not sure why that happened, but oh well.

So basically the objective then, is to both get comfortable with the controls, ship systems like your fire groups, lights and night vision for example, flying around and landing on both stations and planet surfaces, and navigating both in game and using the System and Galaxy maps, because you now know there's no point to staying around in the Starter System building up reputation.

Once you are comfortable, i would still recommend sticking around in the Starter System until you have built up a fairly decent amount of credits and have a ship worthy of setting off into the greater inhabited bubble. I wouldn't say you need a fuel scoop inside the bubble, nor would i say you need extra fuel tanks since inhabited systems are close enough to each other that i think the 4tons you get with the Hauler could ever run out before you got to another inhabited system. However, getting a fuel scoop is something i do recommend because this is another aspect of the game well worth learning to get the hang of now, and best to do this learning while you are in a ship that can be easily replaced since it's very cheap.

As to the payments for missions going up the higher your Reputation is, well it's only a slight increase, and certainly not enough to warrant staying in the Starter Zone.

My advice, is to SCAN EVERY SHIP! You get Data from scanning ships sometimes that you can use later.
You scan ships and stations etc, simply by looking at them until you see a target box, then press a button and it will highlight them and you will see a little 'Scanning' icon appear in your left-hand info panel. Keep them in your view until scanning is complete, and that's all there is to it.

Also, my advice is to get a Hauler as quickly as possible and fit it with cargo bays, which i think max out at 18 tons, so 18 items can be stored.
(I'm not sure if there's another ship in the Starter Zone that can have more storage space, if there is, then probably buy that ship instead of the Hauler)
This means from the start, you can take those Courier and Delivery jobs at the same time, which means more credits and faster ranking up for your Reputation and the Superpower Reputation.
As you rank up just your Reputation, the credits for jobs increase a tiny amount. I see some Courier/Delivery jobs offering just shy of 60k sometimes, like 57,000 credits for example.

When looking at the jobs board, be sure to try and "Stack" missions going to the same System and even the same Station. Another thing to keep in mind is making sure you don't run out of space in your cargo hold having accepted a mission to deliver, say 12 items, and you ran out of space and need to come back to that station to collect the rest to finish off that delivery job. It's a pain to manage this as it's just consuming more of your time for that low pay.

Until you are used to the controls and settings for using things on your ship, i recommend sticking with only those Courier and Delivery jobs.

Once you have your credits up enough, as in, you can cover the cost of buying the ship, fitting it with the parts you need, and a can afford a rebuy or two, then i would recommend buying a Viper or Cobra, and kitting it out for some combat, (very light combat for now!) but also install a Collector Limpet Controller (don't forget to buy Limpets in the Restock menu before leaving the station!) and get the hang of that system since you will want to have it on probably all of your future ships.

Now, you can choose to follow some guides that will tell you to go to certain place, like a "Resource Extraction Site [HIGH]".... but don't do this just yet as it can be totally ruthless. The NPC ships there are at a much higher level that you, and their ships can destroy you in sometimes just one strafe run! I know they will tell you to wait until the System Authority ships have got a bad guy down to like 20% health or less before you shoot them to finish them off, but this doesn't always work out since those ships, despite being almost dead, can still destroy you if they focus all their fire onto you, and even ram into you as well. Any credits you collected up to that point just got wiped out along with your ship.

The safest method i feel, is hanging around the Nav Becon in a System like Matet or Dromi, and scan as many ships as possible, both for the purpose of collecting Data from them, and also to discover which ships are Wanted. When you find a Wanted ship (or they find you), follow them around and usually the System Authority ships will attack the Wanted ship. The method of waiting for the Wanted ships health to get down to like 20% works much better here for you at your level, since these ships aren't over aggressive like the ships in the Resource Extraction Sites are.

This leadins into the role for the Collector Limpets. They're purely used for grabbing Materials (NOT cargo items from other ships as this may get you a Wanted status).
Those Materials will later come in extremely handy!
This is also a great time to get the hang of setting which items your coilector limps should and should not pick up. This is done in the Contacts Menu, on the left hand side, which you should be familiar with at this stage since you use this menu to dock with stations.
It's important to learn setting your limpets to ignore certain items now, so you don't get into trouble later on in a vastly more expensive ship and the System Authority ships destroy you for having illegal and/or stolen cargo.

One last thing i can tell you newcomers, is that you CAN leave the Starter System and come back, as long as you don't land on a station regardless what type or whether it's in space or on a planet surface. (Not sure if this also means you should not land on a planet surface at all station or not).
This means you could also earn credits by following one of the "Road To Riches" guides without losing access to the Starter System.

This is where i am up to now. Everything else from here on out is going to be new for me.

Here are some handy links.
