You ever want to feel lost in space.

We have all this ship being damaged. Hull, weapons and other modules. Why not the Galaxy map get damage?.

Sometimes I want to have that lost feeling.

Plotting a course Instead of being able to plot a trip 20k ly. You can only do a few k ly. Annoying but it not going to kill you.

Star systems like Neutron stars might not show up because the Galaxy map system is damage. You might have to manually plot that course. It could affect other stars

Fog of war damage. Part of the galaxy map will show up depending on how damage your system is. If people remember Alpha in that bubble. That was all we could see. But in this case, the bubble follow you. Note we do have visual markers. Nebulas and such that can help track our way.

System location Cone. Let say your heading back to earth and your galaxy map is damage. It gives you a rough location. Let say 5% to 30% guess in a direction. It will not be in the center. We can plot our course in that general direction. Might mix well with plotting location damage.

Can it be repaired? Let see if the devs look at the idea. Then we can talk about repair.

This should not affect manually selecting system to system.

All this add is a little more risk to exploration. It might also bring in heroes to help in lost explorers.

I always like the idea of being lost.

I made a thread about it ages ago, but I can't find it.
*Hangs head in shame of his Google skills*

If mis-jumps were a thing, it'd be cool if it took your nav computer a while to figure out your location after a mis-jump.
More so if the map could be damaged.

I kinda like the idea of map being imperfect (finding an uncharted star would be awesome) and also misjumps happening from time to time. Though that last one can be TRICKY. Can it be completely random or should the misjump be calculated so that you can jump from the system at least with jumponium? And we need that emergency jump mats with us the whole time? Etc.

If there was some way to target a star from the skybox and jump to it, then I can see how this could work - otherwise there's too much chance that you'd get stuck somewhere with no way to get back to dock and repair.

Why not have the damaged computer misjudge the distance and over/undershoot the star? Of course, overshoot would mean not flying directly at the star but drifting around it. :D I think it would be a great knot in the gut feeling to jump into a system to find that I have 12,000 ls to go because I missed the normal destination with my broken nav computer.

You have to remember this idea has a way to be fixed by another player or a repair unit or locating mats to repair it.

Also, you can ask for help from another player that has a working galaxy map.
