You guys love your scanners. I have a very important question that I need answered.

I'm going out with the Christmas Carriers Convoy.

My ship has an ADS, but not a DSS.

Here's what I need to know. With only an ADS equipped, will scanning a planet still reveal the location of any ground bases?

For example one of the new Colonia Highway bases?

Thank you in advance.

without the DSS you will get roughly 30% less from any exploration credits, also you won't be able to see what materials are available on the surface (i believe)

Planetary bases will only show up as Unexplored on the left-hand nav panel until the planet has been scanned but they will appear in the system map without a detailed surface scan (though I don't think they will appear by name before the scan, you will see their host body marked with the blue lines indicating a surface installation). I do not know if a detailed surface scan is required or if a scan with only a discovery scanner is sufficient to reveal them fully but you would still be able to find them by selecting them from the nav panel.

That much I know, and am okay with. I'm not doing this for exploration profit per se, and I can only spare the one internal for scanners.

Came back to the bubble from the Coalsack, ran some tests.

You do not need a DSS to locate planet-side bases & outposts.

Thank you all, my CCC loadout is final now.

A thing I discovered today: you don't need a discovery scanner to use a detailed surface scanner. If you have already found the planetary bodies with a discovery scanner or by scanning the nav beacon, you need only a detailed surface scanner to find the material properties of planets and rings.
