You have to try out the poor man's Occulus Rift : Anaglyph and IR Tracker

I tried E : D with facetracknoIr (with a 3D led clip and a modified PSEye) and anaglyph glasses and my mind has been blown. Yes the colours are ... well .... not there, and yes after 10mn of flying with red/cyan glasses I, too, get chromatic aberration when taking off the glasses, but the feeling of depth whilst retaining the clarity and framerate of the flat representation is amazing. If you have red/cyan glasses lying around your house just give it a try ... fly around corriolis stations or outposts... it's no occulus rift but it is still amazing (thanks in no small part to the attention to details by FD when designing the world :)

notable problems I had : ghosting on far away objects (especially planets), and of course the lack of colour which makes reading the radar a bit problematic, but just ofr a bit of sightseeing it's definitely worth it.

btw. I DO have a Google cardboard and tried it out with E : D, but honestly, the result was way too laggy and low res to be really enjoyable.

It would be nice if it was possible to bind keys to the 'separation' and 'focal plane' sliders. Getting those parameters at the correct setting is critical to being able to see enough (and not too much) 3D. Having to jump through layers of menus and use trial-and-error is cumbersome. Alternative would be to show a 3D preview when adjusting the sliders.

I use my Nintendo virtuboy. The colors match perfectly with the hud. Unfortunately I get a splitting headache after 5 mins.
