You lose ALL your merits when you lose your ship? seriously?

i found PP to be a bit of a grind, but I tried anyway, figuring that there was light at the end of the tunnel. i had racked up about 73 kills, and got a little to close to a pair of pythons and now, everything is gone?

Consider my PP test over, won't be trying that again

(My own fault I know, but I needed to vent)

I don't follow your complaint here. You decided not to turn in your merit vouchers and lost them when you died? Yes, the same thing happens with bounty vouchers, combat bonds, exploration data, and mission rewards. Why did you expect it to be different?

Consider my ED test over, won't be trying that again."

Exploration data, bounty's and combat bonds all go bye bye on ship destruction.

Why would merits be any different?

because you have still contributed to the factions goal, whether you die or not. You do not get monetary rewards from earning merits, only standing within the power. You have still done what has been asked of you.

Or am i missing something in that you can actually earn money doing this, without a 4 day grind before the reward

With that logic you could argue that you've still killed a wanted man and thus deserve to be paid when it comes to bounty vouchers. If you can't lose merits when you die, there's little to no risk.

It is nuts though, right?
The bounties etc are attached to the pilot not the ship so SHOULD stay with that pilot if he/she buys a new ship with an insurance claim.
I don't lose my bounties if I swap from my Asp to my Type-7 so what's the difference? This has always perturbed me.

The logic is: When you change ships you bring along your personal ship's computer. That's how your keybinds and control scheme moves as well. When your ship is destroyed all of the proof of your exploits go up with the ship/computer. Anyway, it's the same penalty for all aspects of the game. If your ship is destroyed you loose the proof that your paymasters will want.

This makes sense. Not being able t exchange merits with my power contact does not. I shouldn't have to go back to the home system for this .

Pretty lousy. Perhaps we should lose all rep when we lose our ship too? When we commit a crime, it is instantly known across all space, but we get forced to eject, and all the beneficial information gets lost. Bizarre mechanic, nothing more.

Seriously.

You also lose all your bounties when you die as well.

You also lose all your exploration data when you die.

Isn't it strange there is a penalty for death... almost like the devs want there to be a penality for death....

you're not losing your merits, you're losing your vouchers.

completely different.

He is talking about the PP points he has not turned into merits yet I believe. Not the merits he already converted

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that when our ships go splode, we are whisked away at high speed to the last station we were docked at.

We do not die, Instead we (hopefully) have enough insurance to cover the cost of our lost ship and continue on. Given this, I agree with the OP.

73 kills and didn't turn them in?? Doh.

Not surprised but that's how ship death works in the game - just like traders lose their cargo and everyone else loses anything not turned in...

Until you turn them in, there's no proof you actually did anything.

How do you know its 73 kills? Based on number of merits? If you start undermining in a system you can get 73 merits in like 10 minutes.

Well, consider your vouchers like signed, encrypted data in your ship's computer, which prove (in some way.....) that you did what you are going to claim you did.
If your ship goes boom, you lose all the data.
...
...
(and yes, they are too much data to be stored in a portable storage to bring with you in your ejection, or in your seat... which already carries a mini fsd drive with infinite range!!)

:p

PS: ouch... way too late :p
