"You must empty your cargo hold first" - changing ship

I just tried to switch ships and have a few goods in my current ships hold. I got the message above and I can't think why this restriction makes sense.
.
If I want to leave a load of cargo in my parked ship, surely that should be ok?
.
Thoughts?

Temporary storage is direly needed me thinks... unless the station is afraid of contamination from say toxic waste or Abba CDs.

I can think of a few ways to exploit (meaning take advantage of, not violate the game's integrity) holding cargo in a stored ship.

However, none of them are game breaking in any way, nor convey an advantage beyond contracting the time required for some things.

There's some cases where the ability to store and transfer cargo between stored and teh active ship would solve minor issues. One of my pet peeves is taking on a sizable delivery mission in my type 7, only to find that the target destination is a platform I can't land on.

You'll get the same error if you try to sell cargo bays even if you have multiples and are carrying but one good. It's a shortcut FD took to eliminate having to check size of your new hold vs currently loaded capacity.

From a conceptual standard, I agree with you--but if we're going that route, the station should charge a rental fee for the total tonnage of your ship (ship tare, plus cargo weight). That'd be even more realistic. :D

It's warehousing in another dress.

If the game was based on a true supply/demand mechanic this could be an issue but as of yet it just seems prices are handled by the RL equivalent of legislative decrees.
The temporary storage could be limited to immediate transfer between owned ships and an enforced "must be emptied upon departure" rule.

I hate this, I making money with rares in ASP and Type 7 waiting me in shinrarta.I need to waste half of my cargo in my rare route just to hop in Type 7 to buy new module...Its a stupid solution...

In future plans they need to let us have a rented hangar with the possibility to take whatever ship we want (of the ones we own), if not this is not a true sandbox game.
