You will Never....Get...My...Cargo!!!

Because I play in solo... :D just kidding...

Here is why you will never get my cargo..In no particular order of effectiveness.

1. Good luck in finding what system I am in.
2. My Commander name may or may not be the same as my forum name.
3. Typically I submit so FSD cooldowns quicker, and while you're typing out your demands I am plotting an escape route.
4. After #3 I will jump out, low wake then close vents and immediately drop out, then resume my normal route jump and be on my merry way.
5. If I am feeling froggy, I will fight the interdiction, however I am never to sure that if I win or lose was it against the pilot or the game mechanic? NPC's I have no trouble winning.
6. After #5 If I lose, I may just decide to ram you as I am boosting my way out, I can boost and maneuver while avoiding most of your shots as my chaff takes care of your (I can't aim) gimballed weapons long enough for the FSD cooldown and subsequent jump out and resuming my route. Sometimes after #5 I may just unload 5 torpedoes at you just before the ram just for fun.

These are some of primary reasons why you as a pirate will never get any of my cargo. There are other methods:D, however I can't reveal all my tactics.

There is an actual point to this post, will see if anyone picks up on it as the thread progresses.

It's okay, when somebody takes advantage of my kindness to escape they go on to the List and the next time they aren't offered a chance to comply. Just hope you're flying a conda or cutter since I don't bother with those.

I do have an honest question though for the Pirate's, as I don't pirate and have never experienced the situation. If I have my cargo hatch inactive, can it sill be hacked?

If your cargo hatch is inactive, that just means you can't open/close it to scoop cargo. Pirates can still hack or shoot the cargo hatch to get to your cargo.

This. Not even high waking after submitting is enough time for most ships to survive if I go straight to shooting.

I can follow your high wake or chill at the station chatting to traders, get to know your route. Don't assume you are ever safe from me CMDR.

Because ... I got all your CMDR seats booby trapped when you bought cheap with LYR! You knew there was a catch to it didn't ya? :D

Pirates HAVE had some of my cargo in the past. Without fail they were ones who negotiated in good faith and did not make exorbitant demands or open fire. With a reasonable demand, and without an itchy trigger finger it's often more worth my while even if I'm in my heavily armed 'conda to dump a few cans than pay either the repair bill or the insurance. In the T9 even more likely, because that ones only defense is to run (well, waddle more like) away.

The guy who pulled me over in a sidey wasn't so lucky. I hope it wasn't too cold in that escape pod. He gave me a more difficult fight than I expected though for such a differential between ships, so props to him.

I get a lot less piracy now that I'm flying one of the big ships more often than not, which surprises me a little to be honest. After all, I'm carrying so much more cargo now than I was earlier in the game that enough to make it worth the pirates while makes less of a dent in my profits so I'm more likely to cooperate. Of course, I'm also often packing a lot more firepower but against a wing of combat-fitted pirates I'd still probably go kaboom if I tried to make a fight of it so would probably pay up.

Dave's piracy rules for trading:
1: When interdicted submit. Immediately boost and run out the guns if you got 'em. Get on the comms and transmit my willingness to negotiate and that I will not fire unless fired upon. (If I was interdicted by a psycho not a pirate, doing anything else would be suicide.)
2: If he negotiates, don't boost again, just keep the range open while we talk, but don't try and escape - but don't stow the guns either, not until we have come to an agreement.
3: If he fires, give him one more communication "cease fire and I will negotiate" before returning fire. Sustained incoming fire will be taken as a refusal to negotiate further.
4: Negotiate in good faith, keep my word. Fight in good faith too, if it comes to that. Never combat log.
5: So, we agree on a price. Keep moving while dumping cargo so they make a line in space and then make a radical course change so that he can either scoop 'em OR keep you in his sights but not both.
6: Leave promptly, unless we have some social chat to exchange (happens more often than not)

Nice set of rules but I'm sorry Dave I'm afraid cannot do that. :D no cargo no negotiations ever...

Was actually looking something else up when this one popped up...the rules for pirate engagement I get...smart for a businessman trading...I get it....pirates are my bread and butter...but lets face it...unless they are idoits they aren't pulling vultures to rob...or fdls...though some of those can carry a bit that aren't fully combat ready...but why post a catch me if you can statement??? obviously you aren't giving a cmdr name...fine don't want to get targeted by pirate types...and some of your evasion techniques are solid...but though no one knows you...odds are stacked that eventually some pirate will find you...not because of hunting you specifically...just the odds...as more play...more will become pirates...someone has to be the bad guys....but here is hoping your luck holds

Fly safe and Profitable Cmdr's

Fly safe and Profitable Cmdr's

my "personal rules" developed as a result of encountering all sorts - the hardcore PvPer that just wants to fight other players, the person RP-ing a psycho murderer, the pirates who are after profit... I have the "run out the guns and boost" macro'd and usually trigger it before I even check whether it was a player or an NPC that interdicted me and whether it's worth sending comms or not. Whatever the interdictor is up to, those "rules" maximize my survivability in the encounter and if it should be a pirate, allow me to deal with that particular "cost of doing business" without totally wiping out any profit from the run.
