Your back story.

Do you have one in mind?

I am going to start on the edge of known space with the long range Cobra MkIII and 3000cr so I decided on a short back story for my own amusement and to explain how i could be a "noob" with a better start than most.

While working in my normal day job of family chauffeur to one of the founding members of the pilots federation I witnessed a daughter being very indiscreet with a local politician.

My employer was an honourable man and was appreciative of my long and loyal service but at the same time wanted to ensure his families honour remained intact, thus he offered me a retirement package that included the ship and the credits, plus first class passage on a passenger liner to an out system world to collect my new ship, with the subtle hint that,

"There are credits and reputations to be made out in the unexplored depths of space, far far from here"

So, that's my story, do you have one? Even if starting in a basic sidewinder it would be quite expensive, maybe you simply saved up for it, but maybe there is a story behind you too.

Your back story.

Hello story. It's nice to see you again.

Actually, I never do back stories of my own. I wonder what that says about me?

"The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can’t do. For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can’t. But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you’ll have to square with that some day. And me, for example, I can let you drown, but I can’t bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesies, savvy? So, can you sail under the command of a pirate, or can you not?"

My back story :D

Don't confuse your with you're :).

Maybe edited but what OSS put is correct :S

I have a pseudo back story involving one of privilege, good upbringing and so one, but tired of the family name, always having to be "good" for the family's namesake and legacy (Jameson) my commander sets off to discover the galaxy alone only to stumble on one of a Commander Jameson's warehouses ... and inside there's a ship ...

I have a nagging suspicion that you share that backstory with someone... ;)

"Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly… stupid." :p

OSS put the topic title there, and that's right spelling in itself.
But as OSS added the comment: "Hello story. It's nice to see you again.", the topic title feels like wrong spelling in the context (or I read too much into that pun, e.g took it meaning: "You're back Story, nice to see you again" :) )

Blah, what do I know, English is my 3rd language so I'm not an expert :D.

I've been in space since I was a young boy, in an inherited debt servitude to a powerful Imperial Senator. I've flown all kinds of ships in a variety of roles and I've acquired skills and aptitude that make me a space dog through and through.
Unfortunately, none of this experience is actually recognised as mine. I was a slave and my efforts, financial or martial, belonged to my master. However, my abilities have been recognised by the Elite Federation of Pilots who have conferred Founder status on me and who will encourage my legitimate progression through their ranks.
My loyalty to the Emperor is stronger now than when I was a slave and I'm thankful that I was never thrown away on the scrap heap of poverty like those unfortunate Federal citizens.
The rumors that I was retired from the Senators service because I'm middle aged and not as agile as I used to be are just spiteful jealousy.
I've got a 2nd hand Sidewinder and the princely sum of 100 credits.

I was once a young nobleman, destined for greatness in the Empire. Unfortunately a penchant for narcotics, women and gambling put me in to debt. In an effort to get a quick turn-around and avoid being declared insolvent, I naively got involved in a drug smuggling racket which turned out to be a sting operation.

Luckily for me, an unregistered escape pod saved my life and lead the authorities to believe me dead. All I have now is a fake name and enough space smack to buy me a small trading ship.

I WILL be great again!

I'm an avid gamer who played Frontier years ago and almost fainted when I heard the news of a new Elite game coming out, I traded 2 Birthdays and 2 Christmases worth of prezzies from the wife to be able to back it. After waiting a year I am going to slide into the virtual cockpit of my mind and GO BLAST THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of anything that gets in my sights, even if it is just rocks.

All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
The wording of this disclaimer differs from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and from country to country, as does its legal effectiveness.

I'm going to wait until I see where the game puts me at startup (since it's random in most cases), get a feel for the area, and let my back story evolve naturally that way. I had quite an extensive backstory for my character in EVE, which really helped with the RP side of things, so I'm planning the same here.

I hope FD give us the ability to put free text notes on our character sheets.

So.. your dad was 'Boots Strap' Thranduil? That's cool, though I was told to never trust an Elf Pirate.

Zarkon was a primitive warrior of the Nerf Herder Clan from a back-water world somewhere near the Urlaan Nebula. Captured and sold into slavery by a band of Imperial Profiteers, he's resistance to his slaver masters soon landed him in the Ache~nar Capital's Grand Colosseum, where he quickly rose in rank to become Master Gladiator, making the Empire a fortune in merchandising through the sell of his action figures, lunch boxes and t-shirt. His fame lead him to be commissioned into the Imperial Navy, and served as strike leader against resistant border worlds which refused to pay tributes and taxes to their sovereign Overlords, in which he lead many successful and glorious battles. Eventually earning his own freedom, Zarkon had thought of one day returning to his home world of unevolved, primitive barbarians, but decided that he had spent enough of his youth squatting in the mud, so nix on that. He decides to leave Imperial territory and head out into deep space to find a new life. Using his winnings which he had been secretly saving for decades, he buys a long range Cobra and enough gear to survive for as long as the Gods might allowed.

46 years ago, my father Pfiur Cipullo (a confederate) had invented a new type of food blender. Efficient, fast and silent but had only a few credits to his name.
Two years later, Pfiur and his newly wed wife Fuea (an Imperial) who he had met on a holiday at the world famous Ouza tulip plantations on Diso had both decided to leave Lave permanently to move to a planet called Tianve.
Pfiur was invited to the planet Tianve by his very rich old blue bony feline friend called Mahtob who had made his riches from being captain of the victorious Zero-G confederate cricket team and later being a TV host before his retirement. Zero-G cricket soon lost its taste to other galactic sports such as zero-g ruby and zero-g golf.
Their destination planet Tianve was a rich industrial planet with a tech level 14 and with Mahtob's financial capital they would form a business partnership.
The newly weds, Pfiur and Fuea spent the last of their credits on 2 passenger cabins on a Python totalling 9348 credits.
Sadly, the Python never made it to Tianve. It was attacked by a couple of fierce red bug-eyed lizard pirates from the planet Cebetela when entering its last hyperspace jump to Tianve. This caused a malfunction in the hyperspace jump and the Python arrived at the planet Anle instead. The Python was already too damaged by the pirate attack and the cowardly pilot ejected himself from his ship in an escape pod. The Python crash landed. My father Pfiur died of his wounds when some luxury items and computers had crushed his legs and his rib cage. But my mother Fuea survived. She was held captive by the inhabitants of Anle who were horrible drunken black fat insects. She became addicted to the Anleian brandy within days of her captivity. Then quickly gave it all up when she realised she was pregnant. Yes, I was born a slave 8 months later. She named me Zara Moon.
Sadly, when I was 12, I was sold to a large frog on Xeenle, an industrial anarchy of tech level 5 but somehow slaves were banned on this planet and I was freed by some police humans in Vipers. Clearly I was delighted. I was finally free but before I even considered getting back to my mother who was now an alcoholic slave back on Anle, I was hit by a disease on Xeenle. I almost died. I finally recovered 2 years later but by the time I got back to Anle on an Adder, my mother had been sold herself. She was destined to our planet of origin. A planet called Urff. I knew nothing of this planet called Urff, I later found out it was spelt Earth.
This is my story.
My name is Zara Moon Cipullo and I will find this planet called Earth. Be with my mother once more. And if I ever come across the planet Cebetela, I will kill every and each one of those red bug-eyed lizards.

This is my back story ;)

I was hoping to see more entries on this thread today. I enjoy people's creativity when role playing and character writing.

I'm going to hold off on a back-story until I'm happy with the avatar I'm playing. Not much point in making some pirate back-story if I hate it after 10 minutes and remake as an explorer :)
