Your bug reports may have been "archived"

Wasn't quite sure where to put this but I just wanted to draw people's attention to the fact that old bug reports seem to get archived following new releases. So basically, if you've previously reported your "favourite" bugs (or seen someone else report them) and are still experiencing them then you should (I guess) just go and report them again.

As an example, here's a bug report I posted some time back concerning what many people describe as the "floating rocks" or "sinking SRV" issue.

I have to say I'm really quite disappointed to see that bug report being simply archived as I put quite a lot of thought into its construction in order to give the developers as much useful information as I could. The "floating rocks/sinking SRV" bug has never been officially reported as fixed as far as I'm aware so I have absolutely no reason to believe that this is not still an issue (although I will go and test it ... yet again).

Anyway, basically don't just assume that your longest standing and most obvious bugs are "on the list" so to speak. They may well have been simply swept under the carpet archive so report them again if they're still happening.

Then that is even more their problem, not mine.

Well ... we're the ones playing the game so in a sense, no, it's very much our problem. It won't especially bother Frontier if the SRV sinks into the ground occasionally but it certainly bothers me.
Well, if we stop playing the game (due to bugs), it is much more FDev's problem than ours, because our job does not depend on the quality of this game.

Just make the SRV sinking bug a viral whinge and it'll get sorted in no time. We all know the 'bugs' or 'unintended stuff' that the community virally whinge about get the attention quickest :D :D

Most often, people think a credit gld rush is more game breaking than SRVs getting swallowed by planet quicksand!

Now you know why I've resorted to using my signature to proclaim my worst personal bug. I've had half-a-dozen very detailed reports (including images, videos, etc) for the same bug archived over the last year. I feel your frustration man, I feel your frustration...

ps - you need a sig banner with an SRV sinking in the mud, LOL.

True.

Anyway, my main point is really just a public service announcement that if you have a bug which still bothers you and you're sitting there waiting for it to be fixed then you might want to check that your beautiful and descriptive bug report hasn't simply been archived and, if it has, test that it's still a problem and then go and report the bug again.

Alternatively: do nothing and live with it.

Alternatively: stop playing the game so that FD, crippled by your lack on ongoing financial support are forced into re-opening their archives and re-investigating all the bugs.

LOL - yeah, I'm sure many people are all too familiar with the archiving of their bug reports. Amazingly, a new experience for me (or at least, the first time I've noticed).

I wonder if you still sink below the surface in Persephone, Sol system. I always interpreted this as a very appropriate thing to happen, being swallowed by finely grained water ice dust in a planet named after goddess of the underworld.

Just a quick note: Frontier "archiving" a bug (or more usually an entire version's bug report forums) does not mean they aren't doing anything with it. The bug forums are not what they use internally to track issues.

For example, I reported this one (text inconsistencies, nothing major)
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/437726-Inconsistency-in-megaship-d
in 3.1

It was archived, along with the rest of the 3.1 bugs, when 3.2 was released. So far as I know no-one re-reported it in 3.2. (But it's always hard to tell with the forum search...)

3.3 contained a fix for at least some of it, possibly all of it - I haven't had time to go through and check if it was a complete fix yet, but a few bits I've checked are fixed, including some bits that were still wrong in 3.3 Beta.

It won't do any harm to re-report the bug, of course, especially if the symptoms are slightly different in the current version - but you can probably just link to the archived bug report and add a "still happening" confirmation, rather than having to redo all of that.

Just reference them when you create a new bug report if the bug is still in the game. It's what I did for a few of my bugs which I reported every update for over a year until one was fixed and another was bypassed.

Archiving does not mean they're ignoring them, just that they don't have time to check off every single report on the forum. They more than likely have a more detailed list on their internal system, but as far as the forums go it's just not feasible to have one massive thread list and then keep adding new reports to them every patch.
