Your Exploration Trip Payout

Currently trying to get 2000 neutron stars on my way back from Sag A to snag that elite rank. I did a LOT of valuable scanning all the way to the core.

I didn't see another thread like this anywhere and I'm curious what others obtained for all their hard work.

What was your trip payout when you came back from the black??

I made ~70M a while ago. That's when I earned my Elite in Exploration. The trip was relatively short (maybe some 10.000 ly altogether) so I gues my 70Mil are very, VERY low compared to you and many others CMDRs...

I undertook three major trips each lasting 6-8 months and failed each time to return home with the data. Now I do small trips lasting from just a few weeks to one or two months and bank the money. Less risk.
My biggest exploration earned me 25m which really surprised me and its a nice safety net, because before that I was getting very close to not being able to re-buy my old Hauler.
2000 Neutron stars doesn't sound like fun but I guess its a money spinner. Remember to come off the throttle tho'. Hehe :D

Ha! No kidding. I was going great around 700 stars farmed and then all of a sudden the game lagged upon arrival into a system that had a neutron and a big star right next to each other. I wasn't able to throttle down in time, emergency stopped, and lost 25% hull damage trying to get out because I was being hit with double heat trying to escape.

My adrenaline spiked pretty hard during that time lol

I've never seen a system quite like that one, and lag was never an issue until that moment.

Both AMFU's are out of ammo so wish me luck. My module health is ok, but if I take another hit like that one....I'll be heading home.

I'm just trying to guesstimate if I can leave sooner or not depending on other's payout experiences.

No SRV? You can refill the AFMU by prospecting

I don't know what I did wrong, but last month I did the Beagle Point run and hit 65,407KLY's out from Sol, then hit some NS fields on the way back. Maybe half doz or so ELW's and lots of 1st discovered tags, but only made about 38 Mil. Granted, most of my travels were honk and go but still...

I don't have horizons. I'm on Xbox One. I was planning to get horizons when I dock as a treat to myself for hopefully reaching elite. So no SRV.

If you were just honk and go, let's say each system yields on avg 12 unexplored objects. That's 6000 credits per systems. If you do 4000, that's only approximately 24 mil.....I think that's about right??

Your post made me think of something. I've been to Sag A* on both PC and Xbox, and on PC I'm currently on my way to Beagle Point, and I've yet to see a neutron star. Pretty sure I've never scanned a white dwarf either. Any tips for finding them? I don't really know how to identify them on the galaxy map. I filter star types but I only turn off L, T, Y, and Proto. I keep Carbon, Wolf-Rayet, White Dwarf, and Non-Sequence on because I know they're worth money.

Here's everything you need to know:

Using my method of scanning - which is everything but Asteroids & Ice/Rock worlds, my return is usually a minimum of 1 million credits per 1000LYs traveled.

@ CMDR GJ51 - you must have honked all the way there & back - I made 175 million from my trip to Beagle Point & back!

It's not always wise to look at Exploration as way of making big credits, as returns are a lot poorer than other careers

Thanks for the info, but I'm more interested in forging my own path than going to places heavily frequented by other explorer's (save for visting Sag A*, Jaques, and Beagle Point). Hopefully I'll stumble onto to one and then I'll know what to look for on the galaxy map, unless they really only appear in those fields.

A quick and dirty method I use is to go to map mode, zoom out until you can just see the names of systems, turn off everything except what you're looking for (in this case non-sequence and White Dwarfs then fly around the galaxy until you see a system name appear. It's a bit hit and miss but it does work.

Or just head up or down a few hundred lights years from the Galactic plane while you're <10KLY from the centre and you'll find faaaaaasands of 'em :)

Everyone's method of exploration is different, meaning your going to get varying responses, the main four are

- honk and go to get somewhere (strangle the goose)
- Scan neutron system stars only + get your hands round the gooses neck and throttle it for good measure
- Scan main system star + ELW / WW / HMC's
- Scan everything Mister Creasote style

Heres a comparison of 1 & 3 on two previous trips i made;

1) Strangled the goose for 400 jumps CIRA 15kly trip just to "see" something netted me 4m credits upon selling the data.

3) scan main system star + anything of interest (ELW / WW / HMC's) netted me 30m credits for a 10kly in total distance

Time wise which is quicker i have no idea, but i have only ever made one "honk & go" trip... never again.

i did make circa 120m from a trip to beagle many moons ago (Oct 15), this took MONTHS RL time though, since (xBox) Horizons launched i often just land on any rock i can sometimes to get out of a constant - FSD charging - Honk - Scan star - System map check - Engage FSD cycle, i'm envious of those who have the patience to scan everything, if i did this i would still be on my way to beagle though.

My current going rate appears to be about:

"One faction raised to allied" (which is what, a few million credits?) per "5 degrees galactic longitude of the star catalogue that I'm working my way through."
I like raising my standing at the outlying systems around the Frontier and Outback so that I return to the sight of welcoming green ships and stations. :)

I'm flying in a mixed mode, scanning primary stars when near the Bubble and all catalogue stars, investigating any interesting looking systems, and flat-out jonking to cover distance when away from the Bubble.

i made a trip to Sag A last year scanned things along the way (the usual Metal rich, elw, ww, aw and anything looking interesting) i honked scooped all the way back except for a couple of ELW. that netted me 40 million (plus 10 million i got for cashing in at a cg) i am now on my way to Jaques after visiting Beagle Point once again i am scanning anything worthwhile but will do so on teh way back too. i hope to make 100Million which i hope will see me to elite

This may or may not mean much, but I'm at 2.6M, and my travels are no more than the ring of Elvira/Meta-Alloy place/Farseer/Maia, a lot of which wasn't scanned.

Edit: When I say a lot, I mean like 90%. Or more.

Word.

It's not that I don't mind the credits I make as an explorer but, for me, it's all about getting out there and going there..........
