7 is my fav, joined the prem beta yesterday, the game is looking promising for sure. :) played elite on my zx spectrum 48k, things sure have changed.

Just had a thought. When planetary landings come in, will we be able to land anywhere or only at groundside space ports? If the former, then the no. 3 camo option would make sense.

Come to think of it, going cold up against an asteroid would make you very hard to spot visually.

At this point I can only assume that the majority of current voters have secret obsession for black leather.
No?
Ah.
:p

Rubber actually...

Voted for 3, for when planetary landings come in, but I do like 6.

I kind of imagined it would be anywhere, can't go big game hunting in a spaceport....
Are space plants all green then?

I'd hope so, it's the obvious choice for an ambush-combat starship, or one trying not to get ambushed.
It's the same reason you don't get too many military vehicles that are not either olive drab or camo.

Personally, I can't wait until the black shadow ships stick out like a sore thumb against the milky way or nearby(ish) nebulae... :D

Proper Ace pilots will paint their ships distinctively anyway; who wants to be one of the carbon-copy sheep? :p

That's exactly what i was thinking:

Disregarding my sloppy photoshopping it doesn't look bad, i think. Left away the black iron crosses on the wings, too much nationalism imo, better replace it with some own kind of logo later.

If we're going to go the chavvy / white trash route with loud and flag based decals, why not give people the option to go all the way? . . .

More chav/car/flag stuff . . .

If I'm honest, I was a tad suprised when I saw these, as some of them seem a little over the top.

+1 . . . I'd go for shocked and just 'a little' over the top.

No. 13 - a classic skin tipping its hat to the original game.

I'd call myself an 'Elite Puritan Extremist Wireframaphile' when it comes to wireframe graphics, yet I failed to recognise the tribute. I shall whip my back with wire as penance.

I'm not a fan of the Flag ones. IMHO, why would a person sport the flag of a 1000 year old country on their ship? I'd stay away from religious and national symbolism.

Yep. I'm not adorning the banner of the 2nd millenium Kingdom of the South Saxons today. Why would there be people decorating their ships with the flags of extinct Earth nation states of the 3rd millenium, in the 4th millenium? Though we are able to record, disseminate and conserve information now, so maybe we will still be having orgasms over flags in the 4th millenium?

I really hope there wont be any contemporary flag decals.
I cant imagine a bigger immersion breaker.

Immersion seems to be at the forefront of Frontier's minds. I thought it would have been obvious that flags would be an immersion breaker!? They confuse me.

The poll is broken. Where is the "I hate all of them option".

Seriously am I the only person who thinks these skins/decals will just make the visuals look cheap and tacky?

Definately, . . . buuuuut, maybe it adds a bit of realism if you're prepared to go far enough with your thinking (I would still prefer no flags).

In a real universe populated by humans, there are going to be people who you consider to be lacking in taste and style, and do up their vehicles in a manner that you would consider sight pollution. However, where the similarities between the reality of Elite and the real world would end, would be that in Elite reality, you would have the option to blow them to high heaven just on the basis of their decal choice.

I don't care if I have a chance meeting approaching 1 in a million odds with a human in deep space. If you adorn your ship with a flag or a pattern akin to vomitting luminous candy, I'm going to take you out. In a way isn't that sort of beautiful? Rather than getting all emotional about a flag or even disapproving or violent towards someone because they're into 'the wrong flag', you can get emotional and violent because someone is into any sort of flag at all. You could turn Elite into your own proverbial zombie killing game. Who cares if the zombies are young or old, female or male, friend or foe. THEY ARE ALL ZOMBIES, KILL THEM ALL!

No doubt at this point i've gone a bit too far and a bit to TLDR.

Exactly! Although I'll approve British racing green too, but I save that for when (if) i acquire an Asp.

I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't instantly fall in love with classic British racing green when they see it for the first time.

Part of me thinks only certain ships should be eligible for custom skins. If you assume Cobras and below are your run of the mill cars, then people should be free to apply whatever they want. For larger transports, then possibly a livery (eg Eddie Stobbart) but if you look at marina, not many (if any) boats are anything other than the default colour that they were produced with.

From a personal perspective, I do like the DPM skin (3) applied to the Eagle. It will look exceptionally good when we have planetary landings.
