Your first Expedition (Share your first Exploration)

Please see post 2. I have completed the expedition and details are in Post #2. Great of all of you to post your experiences. Keep them coming.

My first expedition was in January 3301 in a T6 with 22ly range.
I headed from Dulos towards Dumbbell Nebula, Veil Nebula, then sort of meandered along spinward on the coreward side of Sadr Region.
I ended up at WR 136, KY Cygni, Crescent Nebula, NGC 6871, and finally NGC 6820. I was just shy of 7 kylies from Sol when I turned back around.
I guided my way back along the B class stars, black holes and neutron stars in what is now called the Cygnus Corridor until I arrived back at the bubble in Dohkwithi.
Total distance travelled almost 20 kylies, 947 jumps, 11MCr and Pioneer exploration rank. It took just over 5 weeks.

Unfortunately a number of systems got rejigged at some point in the past. One of the most interesting systems I came across was HD 193576. It had a ringed M class star in orbit around a black hole.

Problem is that it isn't anywhere near as interesting any more. Stellar forge has been tweaked so that system has fewer bodies and is over 100 million years older.

I arrived back in Tote and I updated post 2 with two final items. Total Cartographic Credits for the trip and to my surprise I had a larger first discovery number than I expected. So that number skews the credits I guess, but not into a million just some thousands.

Thanks all it was a great first expedition. I really enjoy reading those who posted their first expeditions. Some were very far off and exciting. Please post more everyone.

My first expedition (in the full game) was to visit as many of the major stars of Orion as I could, and specifically to visit Mintaka.
My 1st expedition went along the same lines. :)
Had to break it in several parts to refit my ship, to change my ship and to collect jumponium once that became a thing.
But I went through the lot:

Oh yes, this all happened before RNGineers were introduced. ;)

I've been playing since Premium Beta.

My story is much the same. In Gamma, when they opened up the universe, I set out in my Freagle - extremely badly equipped - to visit a neutron star. Turns out I couldn't reach it with my low jump range, so I decided to see just how far from the galactic plane I could get. I think I got about 1000 light years, which seemed awesome to me at the time. I still have screenshots from that trip, the galaxy laid out under me.

Sadly I lost the Eagle on the trip back to one of the unending series of NPCs that existed everywhere at the time. Not only did I lose it, but I misunderstood the rebuy screen and ended up back in my starter Sidey without the money to refit a new Eagle. I hadn't put much time into moneymaking in the game, but this got me off my bum and into rare goods trading. A few trips bought me a Cobra Mk III, which let me make money faster. A few more trips got me a reasonable exploration loadout, though I still didn't know about the heat advantages of undersized A-rated power plants.

That Cobra took me on my first long trip, across the interarm gap to the Sagittarius arm. It took me a bit less than a month to make the trip, playing an hour or so a day, and my heat would routinely hit 99% while scooping (D-rated power plant). I took a break, then did some shorter jaunts, but that trip bought me an Asp Explorer, properly fitted, as Horizons hit. That let me head out on my *next* expedition, Distant Worlds.

I held my breath and jumped into the deep end of the pool, hoping that I hadn't done something stupid...

My first exploration trip was the Distant Worlds Expedition. I made it to Beagle Point and back to the bubble, barely. I had done my research and had a newly-purchased AspX with a 32 ly jump range and an appropriate load-out. I had a lot of fun, but it was a brutal trip; I had to spend 3-5 hours every day, to keep up with the front of the pack. I made it back, just, with 6% hull remaining.

I’m about half way through my first trip now.

I started at deciat with a level 1 modified FSD in a diamondback explorer. I have about 38.5 LY jump range.

I dropped about 750 light years below the galactic plane and visited the North America Nebula. Actually I just traveled at random and then saw I was close to the nebula and thought, why not? I am now traveling to about 750 LY above the galactic plane and will head back to the bubble to turn in my data. I have not seen any earth like worlds but did see a few water worlds.

I have a couple of questions.

Is there any way to tell what my discovery data is valued at before I get back to a system and sell it? So far I have not seen a way to figure it out.

Also, if I filter on settlements would this show stars in a nebula if there is a Base? Would a system with a small base show a population other than zero in the galactic map or is this mainly for well populated systems?

What class of FSD are you using, 5? 5a? 5c?

I don't know the answers to your questions.

Hopefully nobody is on an exportation trip with anything but a full size class A. It's just a tedious waste of time to fly with an undersized FSD.
I get it, if you can't afford a class A, but you'll be much better off saving for one and leaving later

No way to see your scan data or the value of it, but if you are using ED Discovery, you can estimate the value based on the things you have scaned.
You can filter based on population but it's easier (IMO) to just take a look this this map ... https://www.edsm.net/en/galactic-mapping#4/440/0/1440|deepSpaceOutpost

I have a 5A FSD and pretty much the best D versions of everything else.

Two heat sink launchers, one cargo rack, SRV, best scanners. I think my shields might be better than D class, I can’t check right now.

Thanks, I’ll check this stuff out.
