General / Off-Topic Your first gaming experience?

Horace goes skiing on a ZX Spectrum 48k!

[haha]

I loved Horace goes skiing....wasn't too keen on Horace and the Spiders though...

First experience I think was Pong with the twisty paddles and then we had the Speccy......Manic Miner came first swiftly followed by the likes of Attic Attack, Sabre Wulf, Jet Set Willy and Football Manager to name but a few.....

Ahhh......the days of tapes and those loading screens!

My first game experienceS, 2 games i've got from my father for my first computer:

And the next year Theme Park, Day of the Tentacle, Wing Commander III etc. followed [big grin]

Monkey Island had a facelift and was re-released last(?) year together with a new series of adventures for Guybrush.

I had vainly hoped that the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was going to be a film version of the Fate of Atlantis. Boy was I disappointed.

I remember seeing Attic Attack running in WH Smith and being bowled over, that was a good game. Also Beowulf (I think) and Alien8 from the same developers were a lot of fun. Also ended up killing my Speccy keyboard playing Way of the Exploding Fist against a mate, over and over.

Elitist comment: I had a tape deck (again from WH Smith) with adjustable volume and hardly ever got "R: Tape Loading Error" [tongue]

You just took me right back... Jet Pac? Monty Mole?

Do you remember Crash magazine and the comic strip that featured Jetman?

Ha!! Now THAT took me back......The tricks I had to employ to get the tape to bleeding work! I used to "clean the heads" with a cotton bud (q-tip?) dipped in meths or fiddle with the volume using a jewelers screwdriver in the little hole on the tape deck.

5 minutes later??.......

........R: Tape Loading Error.....

AAAARRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

You don't want to know what first games I played when I was a kid. So let's leave it at that, but it had something to do with Snakes.[haha]

The loading flashing bars brings me right back, however it was Commodore 64. It is funny how it is similar on different computer (but C64 had better graphics. lol).

Btw I do not know if I told but I got introduced to the "copy" Great Giana Sisters before Super Mario Bros ;))
It got pulled from stores very quickly but it got copied like mad. Everyone had this game. Funny enough nowadays you can buy legit copy of Giana Sisters for Nintendo console/handhelds. ;) Original, remakes, etc.

Arcades! Space invaders of course, and then Phoenix, Galaxian etc. I got an Atari 2600 "woody" for Christmas when I was six. When I was 13 I got the Commodore64 with Elite. Best gaming rig ever [squeeeeee]

My first game was probably pitfall for Colecovision. I wasn't very good at that game at all. [hehe]

Super Nintendo was my favorite; it had some of the best games.

My experience's with gaming are a bit patchy. I never really played much before the PS1. However, I do remember playing a SEGA Megadrive round my mates house.
My first ever PS1 game was the classic Crash Bandicoot. That game was beautiful. I spent hours playing that. I also loved Destruction Derby and Pandemonium!
My first ever PC game was one that came free with our first ever PC called Pepsi Max Extreme Sports.

My FIRST gaming experience? Hmm...We could go back to the Hand-held "Electronic Baseball" thing I had, which featured a baseball diamond and a bunch of flashing lights. We could talk about this game console that had two knobs on it, and three built in games ("Pong", "Tennis" and "Handball), all of which featured white dots bouncing around the TV screen. Then we moved up to the Atari 2600 game console (how many hours did I kill with "Night Driver"? That was soon followed by the Atari 5200. When "Pitfall" came out, it was like "WOW! What a graphics breakthrough!" Of course, "Pitfall" would now look like "Pong" compared to today's games....

My first PC game? I think it was the first version of Rollercoaster Tycoon that I tried to play on our first computer that we bought in 1999. I don't think it played that well. The PC wasn't a gaming system.

Let me see all started with the pachinko machine at 8 than I moved to Space Invaders / Pac-Man / Donkey Kong. than we had an Atari 2600 remember reaching behind the tv to switch the controller over. And would spend hours playing Missile Command / Moon Patrol / Maze Craze. Than Apple happened my dad bought An Apple IIC Atari was done by that time in our house. So games like Rescue Raiders / Karateka / and 1000s of hours in an dial up modem called the proving grounds. and also had NES and Duck Hunt. more to come later.
