Hardware & Technical Your opinion please - PC gamer build, with low noise

Hey Guys

Currently im playing ED off a bootcamped Macbook Pro from early 2013.
Its an i7 with 16gb of ram and a GT650m discrete graphics chip. Its not a bad machine, but it wont run ED on higher settings, meaning that I mis out on som AA and fps doesnt exceed 40-50. Also I have lots of frame stuttering AND the machine gets crazy hot.

So, I have been looking at a completely new build.

Main goals:
- somewhat futureproof
- very silent (machine is in the bedroom)

This build is not cheap, so any cost optimization ideas would be appreciated.

The build-idea looks like this:

Case:
Aerocool DS
http://www.aerocool.us/ds/ds_case index.htm

Motherboard:
Asus Z97m Plus
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97MPLUS/

PSU:
Corsair AX760

CPU/cooler:
Core i5 I5-4460 6 MB
Noctua NH-D15 cooler

Ram:
G.Skill Ripjaws-X 2 x 4 GB / 1866 mhz

Graphics
ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 (4 GB)

SSD:
PNY OPTIMA Solid State Disk 240 GB

Noise will largely depend on the quality of casefans and CPU cooler. I suspect the huge 200mm fan in front is going to be noisy, but if that is the case you can always replace it later.

For your CPU, Noctua solutions are very nice, but consider using a preassembled watercooling kit like the Corsair H100i. There are great advantages to transporting heat directly to the outside of the chassis. Fans can then operate on a lower speed and it may be less noisy.

If you want the best of the best, nothing beats the Noisblocker. They cost a small premium above most other fans, but I changed all my fans to NB and never looked back.

Regarding the water cooler, how large should it be to cool the i5 446 cpu? You suggest the H100i, but would the H50 work as well? Its a bit more silent that the H100i :)

Not neccessarily. More radiator surface/volume, means fans can run at a lower speed, but having a single 120mm radiator at the back will probably be less noisy than a 240mm at the top. However, if you configure it right, the fans will only spin up while you are gaming, and be very quiet when your PC is idling. When you play games you will never notice the fans anyway.

Ive seen builds in different threads using i3's, so perhaps my planned i5 is a little overkill?

And the graphics - how would gtx 960 fare as budget option?
