Hi everyone,
I'm extremely bored at work. This is a normal occurrence for me so I tend to browse the forums, make random comments, etc. There's not much good reading on the forums today so I'd like to start a topic that talks more about the individual player. I want to hear stories about how you've fared in this Dangerous world we exist in? How long you've been playing? What career path you took? What was your ship progression like? Any big "oopsie" moments? Do you fly solo, in a wing, in a group?
I'll start:
I started paying attention to Elite when I saw the witch space sequence when it was shown on PC Gamer way back in the day - I want to say April 2014. I followed it a bit and eventually I succumbed when I saw the bounty hunting video of 2 Sidewinders chasing a Viper through an asteroid belt and the Viper was ejecting mines. So I opted into the Beta. I started the game up literally when Beta 1 was ending and Beta 2 was about to begin.
I remember the joy of taking that Sidewinder off for the first time. The sounds, the music, the lights. It kicked off a PC upgrade spree that I spent a lot of "hard" earned cash on. From there I progressed to the Eagle and then to the Viper which was my main ship throughout Beta, Gamma, Release and all the way till 1.2 when I finally bought a Vulture.
My best "oopsie" moment involved a time getting my co-worker killed. He was big into Eve and I bugged and bugged him to join this game. Finally he did about 1.2. He quickly adapted to the game and was in a Viper in a week or so, but he had never done a Wing nor had he ever been in a PvP experience (he played Open though). We finally met up and a Nav Beacon that was occupied by 2 other CMDRs - not in a wing. I had my Vulture and he had his Viper and we were PvE hunting in an anarchy system.
At FIRST I thought HE was shooting me.
"Knock it off Pat" I yelled to him.
"You might want to check your six" he replied.
It was one of the CMDRs in a Cobra. The other CMDR must have noticed the "fun" and opted to jump me as well.
I'm furiously fighting both of them wondering where the hell my Wingman is.
I see a message come across the comes: "Can I shoot them now"?
"Are you kidding me Pat?! Yes for the love of god shoot them!"
I quickly entered SC with a plan to turn around and quickly exit back at the Nav Beacon maybe getting the drop on them. Maybe Pat actually did something.
Nope, I exit SC only to see Pat disappear into a puff of smoke. I probably should've told him to SC away, but he did manage to do some significant damage to the Cobra. I targeted him, but he jumped. I followed him into SC and interdicted him while he made his way back to the station. By this time I met back up with Pat who wanted to handle the next interdiction.
"Sure no problem - interdict away" I told him
He does - I follow. I quickly turn to face his target and boost - RIGHT into him at full speed. Now we're both spinning wildly - him with no shields and heavy hull damage; me with no shields and light hull damage. Let's just say the CMDR Cobra made short work of him (again, lol), and I was left with a huge repair bill. I still remember the taunt the enemy CMDR sent us that day: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Needless to say, we haven't done PvP since then.
