Your top 20 in-game animals

Based off of a comment from the Spring 2024 thread, taken from DeLady's Youtube poll...what's everyone's top 20 animals that are currently in the game? Feel free to update after new DLC releases. Doesn't have to be in ranking order of 20 to 1, but it can be (mine probably will be since I'm a bit OCD about lists).

Reminder: This is NOT!! about what animals you want to see in the game that aren't yet. This is your favorite animals in game.

Actually, not doing them right in order immediately, I'll resort them later.

Capybara
Meerkat
Asian Small Clawed Otter
Koala
Red Panda
Siberian Tiger
West African Lion (even with the model not being that great)
African Elephant
Giant Panda
Reticulated Giraffe
Common Wombat
Crested Porcupine
African Penguin
Snow Leopard
Moose
American Bison
Red River Hog
Brown Throated Three Toed Sloth
Southern Cassowary
Timber Wolf (again, even with the model not being that great)

-------------In Answer to the Question-------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Reticulated Giraffe: Some of my favorites in real-life zoos, and the model is pretty good.
  2. Arctic Wolf: They are an improved wolf, and I build for them often.
  3. Southern Cassowary: Phenominal bird. I love them in-game and in real life
  4. Prairie Dog: They are a staple of my local zoos. They're adorable
  5. Wild Horse: I like equids and conservation stories.
  6. Lar Gibbon: Gibbons have such a pretty call, and this one comes in so many colors
  7. Mute Swan: Waterfowl are so imporant for building zoos.
  8. Crested Porcupine: Interesting in real-life and zoos
  9. White Rhino: The model is gorgeous, and it's my go-to big ungulate for before I get conservation credits.
  10. Red Panda: One of my favorites in-game and in real life.
  11. American Bison: The national mammal of my country is an impressive and common feature of local zoos. The in-game model could use a bit of work, though.
  12. Dromedary: This is another staple of zoos near me. I love the color variations.
  13. Jaguar: Jaguars aren't my favorite in real life, but the black ones look so cool in the game.
  14. Red River Hog: A colorful pig that I like in real life and has a beautiful model in the game.
  15. Bengal Tiger: Many zoos near me seem to have them. The color morphs add realism and are fun in the game, but less so in reality. White tigers are essential.
  16. Gorilla: I really like watching them in zoos and in real life.
  17. Giant Anteater: Such a unique and interesting animal! I would love it if this one could get a model update, but it still looks like an anteater.
  18. Greater Flamingo: Flamingos are common in zoos. I would prefer an American flamingo, but I use the one we've got very frequently.
  19. Galapagos Giant Tortoise: Giant tortoises are awesome!
  20. Asian Small Clawed Otter: River otters are adorable. I'm glad they finally turned up. They captured the cute whiskers very well.
--------------Other Very basic animals that I use often--------------------------------------------
  21. Giant Panda: Important conservation icon that I'm glad is in the game.
  22. Sand Cat: Maybe not the most essential addition, but I love building for them.
  23. Capybara: Adorable zoo staple that I often try to include.
  24. Lynx: Excellent temperate little cat. I use it often.

  26. Red Kangaroo: Very important and common zoo animal and a pretty good model.
  27. Plains Zebra: Very common and a favorite zoo animal, but the model could use some work.
  28. Cheetah: I love them in real-life zoos. They usually blink back when I see them, so they seem a bit more social than other cats.
  29. Ring Tailed Lemur: Iconic zoo animal with a good model.
  30. American Beaver: Very important local species with some interesting behaviours.
  31. Mandrill: I build for this monkey a lot. I like them, but I would love some more options on that front.
  32. Llama: They are funny to watch and have good coat colors.
  33. Bornean Orangutan: A favorite in real-life, but the model could use some work. I'm glad it brachiates now.

  35. Asian Elephant: Most common zoo elephant.
  36. Cougar: Very important local species with a lot of uses.
  37. African Penguin: Penguins are fun.
  38. Grey Wolf: Basic zoo animal.
  39. Peafowl: Basic zoo animal and a favorite, but the breed and get sick a little too quickly.

  76. Striped Hyena: Hyenas are an interesting carnivoran
  77. Platypus: Great oddball that is interesting to build for
  78. Indian Rhino: Important for India and taxon rep.
  79. Japanese Macaque: Pretty good monkey with different habitat requirements
  80. Grey Seal: Pretty good pinniped.
  81. Gharial: Cool Crocodilian.
  82. Polar Bear: Basic arctic animal that is a bit of a challenge to build for.
  83. Red Fox: Great fox with an excellent variety of color morphs
  84. Giant Otter: Good oddball for SA, but I greatly prefer the ASCO model.
  85. Somali Wild: Excellent equid
  86. Bongo: I like this antelope.
  87. Pangolin: Good oddball for East Asia.
  88. Reindeer: Important arctic icon with a model that could use work.
  89. Black and White Ruffed Lemur: I was excited to see our first anniversary animal, but I would prefer something other than lemurs for primate rep. It was free, so it's great.
  90. Sable Antelope: I like this antelope.
  91. Bactrian Camel: Good varitey animal, but not one I use much
  92. Chimpanzee: They scare me in real life, but they're a very important pick for a zoo game.
  93. Arctic Fox: Cute fox.
  94. Warthog: Lion king
  95. Dwarf Caiman: A cute little croc that should be able to live in a smaller pond.
  96. Dall Sheep: A cute caprid
  97. Quokka: Adorable little marsupial
  98. Snow Leopard: A favorite in real-life but the model is one of the worst, possibly even worse than the lion.
  99. Gemsbok: Good African antelope.
  100. Hippo: Iconic creature that requires a ton of space.
  101. Sloth Bear: Love the new fur texture. Bravo for that! I like them in real life.
  102. Proboscis Monkey: I used them to farm CC's in franchise mode. They are a pretty good monkey.
  103. Red Deer: Good for Europe
  104. Siamang: Nice to have a second gibbon
  105. Pronghorn: Lovely model, and a perfect oddball pick for NA
  106. Striped Skunk: Great small, woodland animal for NA
  107. Sun Bear: Tropical bear with a good model.
  108. Wisent: Great conservation story.
  109. Scimitar Horned Oryx: ditto
  110. Amur Leopard: ditto
  111. Collared Peccary: I don't like pigs, but this one has a few uses.
  112. European Badger: Pretty good pick for Europe
  113. African Buffalo: They're a good bovid that likes to wade in the water.
  114. Spotted Hyena: Lion King
  115. Nine Banded Armadillo: Great small mammal
  116. Takin: The Himalayas finally got a goat! I still miss the markhor, though.
  117. Dingo: Good pick for Australia
  118. Wild Water Buffalo: Pretty model, and adds Asian hoofstock
  119. Formosan Black Bear: A generic moon bear would have been way more useful. This one doesn't tolerate cold climates, so no, I can't pretend it's my beloved ABB.
  120. Little Penguin: Nice bird.
  121. Siberian Tiger: Important icon for East Asia
  122. Saiga: Funky antelope.
-------------------Not my favorites, but I can usually see at least something positive about their inclusion.-----------------
  123. Aldabra Giant Tortoise: I keep forgetting we got this one instead of the spurred tortoise. I usually use the Galapagos.
  124. Nyala: I like kudu better, but this is still a nice antelope.
  125. Fossa: This animal creeps me out a little, but I can see its value for Madagascar rep.
  126. Dama Gazelle: Good conservation story, but not a great pick for the pack.
  127. Tasmanian Devil: This animal scares me, but it is good for Australia and taxon rep.
  128. Nile Lechwe: It has a great model, but it wasn't one of my favorite picks.
  129. Raccoon: Not a zoo animal in my location, but I'm happy for the European players that wanted it.
  130. Wild Boar: I am afraid of pigs. Also, I don't think this one turns up much in AAA zoos.
  131. Bonobo: I wish we could have gotten a monkey instead. I don't think I've ever seen these in zoos. The model is great, though.
  132. Dhole: It has some uses, but I don't really need this animal.
  133. Asian Water Monitor: The model is pretty, but I was not very excited about this pick.
  134. Springbok: I always use the gazelle.
  135. Black Rhino: I didn't need another rhino, and the white one looks better to me.
  136. Black Wildebeest: The blue one makes this one unnecessary.
  137. Himalayan Brown Bear: I wish they didn't go into bear subspecies. I think it created unnecessary problems. The EBB would have been better if they had to use subspecies at all.
  138. Babirusa: I am afraid of pigs, and I find this animal upsetting. I don't like thinking about its tusk growing into its brain.

I'm still to use like a third of the entire game roster as my recreation builds can be restrictive to many of the unique animals but I'll rank my favourite animals that I have used. A mix of the habitat build style, the animal quality and how much I like the animal in real life.

  1. Asian Small Clawed Otter - Long time real life favourite animal of mine, adorable squeaks make them entertaining to watch

@SuzieSky that's a lot of effort, dang! There's actually one missing I think, as I think there's 138 habitat animals at the moment but I couldn't for the life of me look at your list and figure out what's missing right there. Probably an African Antelope.

And thank you for all for submitting your lists. I'm not planning on doing any kind of tally, just interested in seeing what people's favorites are.

13. Red Panda - ADORABLE!
14. Jaguar - the model could be improved but it's still lovely.
15. Axolotl - probably the nicest of the exhibit species
16. Cassowary - fascinating and underrated by the game (why the low appeal?!)
17. Anteater - could benefit from better texture but still a good one
18. E. Badger - adorable and fun to build for
19. Sloth bear - fantastic bear. Its inclusion was unexpected but made me very happy
20. Llama - they're just so much fun!

Honorable mentions: the fallowing three are animals I adore in real life and are among my very favorite species but the PZ models are just so bad. They make me sad! I'm still glad they are included in the game, even in their current form but they are begging for an update:

Okapi - one of the most fascinating creatures ever but the game got the proportions, anatomy and biomechanics completely wrong. On top of that it has very small appeal to the guests. Why? Someone at frontier must hate okapis?
Bongo - IMO the most beautiful antelope species. Unfortunately the model is very outdated, simplified and not in pair with the overall quality of this game
Snow Leopard - such magnificent creature in real life. Sadly the model doesn't do it any justice.
