YouTube builds income

Hi guys-

I apologize in advance if this comes across as a rude question (discussing income), but I wanted to see if anyone was willing to talk about how much one might make on YouTube posting their builds.

I personally love watching speed builds and let’s play on YouTube, and I also love playing PZ/sharing my builds. I have been considering starting an account to share, but I don’t know how it all works….obviously I understand it varies depending on #of videos, time working, build quality etc. but the idea of creating a side gig out of something I enjoy so much is quite appealing.

Is anyone willing to enlighten me on how much a YouTuber may realistically make putting out YouTube videos?

Thank you!

I've heard from several YouTubers it can take years of constant hard work with a stroke of luck to getting any respectable level of income from YouTube, even worse these days with the constant copyright flags. I would just upload to share your creations if you like showing the planet zoo community your work, it's just really hard starting off when you haven't built up a name

Right, that’s what I expected to hear :) I guess I’m curious what kind of following one would need to obtain in order to get any sort of income at all from videos

All in all gaming seem to be one of the harder topics to get big within on YouTube, and I imagine creative games are even worse, since a lot of people like showing of what they spend hours on creating. PZ is no exception. There is a lot of content creators out there for this game.

I make PZ content on YT myself. I am not at a point where I can earn anything on it. Of course it would be cool to get there, but I am for the most part just trying to have a good time with it and I'm not really consistent with how often I upload videos anyway.

There really is no clear answer to how you get to that point easily. And if you go into it with money on the mind, then I imagine you are likely to do worse than those who does it just for the fun of it.

You can't do much else than give it a try, see if you enjoy it. If you don't, then stop. A few earn money on it after a few months I believe for others it might take years. Most people probably never gets to that point.

Tiny YouTuber here. To be eligible to earn money on YT you need 1,000 subscribers & 4,000 hours of watch time. Took me 7 months of a video every Saturday to get to that stage. In terms of how much you earn at that point, my first month of being monetized I earned £30 😆

I would recommend either having a distinctive way of making your videos, a distinctive building style or both. Making videos people want to watch is seriously time-consuming, my latest series often takes me a full day just to edit plus another evening doing the voice-over. That's not counting the hours spent building!

Do you get more money if the same person watches a video agian or do you only get it from each person watching it once?

I believe it's purely based on ads shown so I guess you would. YT gives out very little info on how it works though.

Most of these social media influencer money options are basically scams that allow advertisers (and platforms) to make free money off your work.

With my anti-end stage capitalism rant out of the way ...

It's just like writing or acting. 95% of the people who get into do not make any money, and certainly not a profit. So, if you want to show off your builds, or whatever, do it because you enjoy it - not with an eye towards making any money because you are not at all likely too, no matter how spectacular your builds may be.

For most full time YouTubers PZ doesn't actually do that well. Especially not so late into the life span. So I wouldn't count on PZ on YouTube as your main income.
But if you have fun sharing and really want to put passion into it: Do! The community is supportive and while most of us couldn't make ends meet with PZ videos, the support you'll get is probably worth it.
