Powerplay Zemina Torval is recruiting!

post1.png

Welcome Commander!

We're glad that you've expressed interest in joining Senator Torval's agenda. Her Excellency's recruitment team is always on the lookout for talented individuals who are willing to further her cause.

These are troubled times for the Empire. After the unfortunate assassination of Emperor Hengist Duval, Her Royal Majesty Arissa Lavigny-Duval ascended to the throne and proclaimed a new era of stability and prosperity for our Empire.

Senator Torval is supporting this declaration as well as the imperial unity with her immense wealth and powerful private fleet. It is a good time for independent contractors to choose sides and why not choose the filthy rich one?!

In many ways Senator Torval represents the solid and traditional politics of the Imperial Senate. She is seen as a paradox by some, particularly with regard to her views on Imperial slavery. She adopts the position that tradition expects but that many fail to achieve in the care of the millions of slaves from her business interests. She can be vocal in condemning those who fail to take proper care of their slaves, but she is equally open about how they form the foundation of the Empire.

She takes the long and more considered approach to amassing power. She lacks the impetuousness of Patreus, but is quite willing to work with him to achieve her goals. She prefers diplomacy to force, but has a substantial military fleet capable of handling most situations.

Her desire for power is more than personal ambition: she is, in a sense, the matriarch of a developing dynasty. Torval focuses her energy on building a legacy for future generations. Even though she was born wealthy, she still possesses a strong work ethic and will labour tirelessly to get things done.

While her time is dominated by her senatorial responsibilities and business concerns (she is, famously, the controlling shareholder in Mastopolos Mining), Torval tries to find the time to be with family, who are very important to her. In her younger days she enjoyed hunting, but that pastime is now limited to her rivals in business and the Senate.

Joining Senator Torval offers many advantages and challenges. You will have access to imperial slaves through the Imperial Slavers Association and make millions on slave trading. If you have moral concerns, note this: imperial slaves are the backbone of imperial society and they are fed, clothed and housed extremely well under Senator Torval's management. Once their debt is cleared, they will even regain imperial citizenship!

As a miner, after proving yourself, you will be granted the Torval-exclusive Mining Lance™, which will significantly increase effectiveness of your mining operations. This piece of mining laser is capable of melting ore faster than usual as well as melting the face of your enemies!

If credits aren't your motivator, Zemina Torval also offers other benefits. Being one of the most influential person in the Empire (and even the Galaxy), serving under the Senator is considered to be one of the greatest honor amongst imperial citizens. Once your contract is established, you will be part of her private fleet and you will be able to choose from various tasks including border patrol, trade ship escort, contract delivery and even espionage. It is guaranteed that you will find the challenges you are looking for!

For your exceptional service, the Senator also provides a weekly salary up to 50 million credits!

Oh, I applaud your efforts Parratich. Bravo.

May I add a few pertinent details?
-Torval offers a passive 10% discount in her Control Systems for all Imperial Slaves and Mined Materials. So to take full advantage of this, buy from Zemina and sell to other Powers. Trading also has a small effect on BGS Manipulation.
-Her Control Systems also doubles the production and consumption of Mined Materials, and Imperial Slaves in Empire based Control Systems.
-Torval offers a Trade Bond Voucher at Rank 2. This will give an extra 5% of your trade transaction totals at each of her stations or outposts. This percentage increases up to 20% if we could ever get her into the top three. Combine this with Wing Trade Vouchers and the profit margins begin to inflate at a satisfying rate. So at each Torval station or outpost, you would receive 5% (up to 20% theoretically) of your own profits back plus 5% of each of your Wingmates' profits.
- At Rank 5, Torval grants a 50% profit for Rare Commodities in her systems. Granted, at Rank 5 you may not be trading Rare's often. However there are always Rare Commodity based CG's happening. And I personally still trade Rare's as my Home System of Kappa Fornacis is surrounded by Rare Commodities. A 50% increase to already highly profitable goods is fantastic.
- Torval is located near Archon Delaine space, utilizing his 15% profit increase for Black Market sales.

So in summary, Torval can help you make more money, faster. For a Trader, her benefits are optimal. And Trading is where the big money is. With Senator Torval, that money gets even bigger.

Zemina Torval is a twisted old lady. We have no beggars for money as they are working down in her mines, starving to death!

Don't let that killer of human rights show their power!

That is a common misconception about Zemina. Quite the opposite is the truth: while other powers treat slaves as nothing or outright deny their existence, Torval pushes their well-being into the front of her agenda.

With respect your vision of imperial social norms and reality are the only things that are being twisted.

Why so much hate for some one who's only crime is being the best in the business.

I hope you feel proud transporting your profitable Palladium runs from Torval's domain back to Cubeo. Thanks for supporting the imperial way of life :)

Nobody denies slaves' existence here. If we did, we wouldn't try to liberate them.

Eh, I'm sure NOBODY ever crossed or bought anything from Aisling's territory. You do realize we are both in the same faction, and thus we can move freely in the Empire, right?

I realise we are both in the same major faction - I just hope you do too! My point was cheap minerals from Torval space are transported and sold at a premium to Aisling space and long my it continue.

But the fruits of this labour is indirectly resulting from the bonded labour force.

Personally I don't give a hoot about if we have bonded labour or not.

You highlight an issue, but provide no means to address it, just attacking your imperial brethren with the slavery card which is wholly incorrect.

So you're justifying slavery by two cheaper materials in two systems? We have some profitable routes too, so it is not thanks to slavery.

No sir I was making the observation that many profits are made by transporting cheap minerals from Torval to Aisling. Nothing wrong with it, but you still benefit from the labour of Imperial Slaves.

RP mode off

I role play an imperial patron, from his birth this has been the natural order of things. I treat those under my protection well as my honour system requires.

In real life of course slavery in all its forms is abhorrent, that is my belief, but this is a game and if we all overlay our real life views on the lore of the game we would all probably be supporting Mahon.

I do have respect for Aisling supporters, she is hot and truly is an idealist and I am sure that is why she is appealing. However I want you guys to work for it, the entire fabric of society is going to be affected and people are naturally resistance to change.

Elite is a strange game because the majority of the player base is anti-slavery based on their frame of real life. However in the game world in imperial space the majority of the customs and culture are build around these institutions. The game world population doesn't want emancipation, they cannot for one second see how they will benefit from it. That's the reality of the Empire and it's not something that the players who choose to role play in this world should be ashamed of.

There will always be winners and losers in life regardless if it is under capitalism or patronage.

There is no need to justify slavery. It's a corner stone of Empire and is governed by law, which ensure that slaves have human rights. You are confusing what we have now with old earth slavery and what is happening in the black markets of the Federation. Those slaves have no guarantee that they will be treated as human beings at all. The Federation tries ignore the entire topic when it comes to themselves. Now that is something that needs some explanation.

Aisiling is a young Idealist and as such her Ideas tend to be radicalised. She has her heart in the right place, but with age she will understand that she's only doing more harm than good with her campaigns. Treating slaves has to be fair and that's why a government has to have a strong grip in regulating slavery.
