Zero Demand Market question

came across this statement on reddit,
"Selling zero demand commodities has no impact on BGS, if that’s something you care about.

That means the faction’s influence in the system won’t increase from your trade profit / decrease from making a loss."

is this true? i have never heard this before. is it new to the Live universe or has it been a thing for while?

Odyssey Update 10, so it applies to Legacy as well

There's a slight bonus for commodities with green 3-bar demand as opposed to red 1-bar demand but it's not a major factor.

I don't know if there's a distinction between
0 demand (it's not a commodity that station cares about)
and
0 demand (the station wants it but currently has enough)
for influence

thanks, Ian.

Looks like i missed that last year.

the update says,
"Faction consequences from selling commodities are now based on satisfying available demand at the Commodity Market
You can now support a faction by buying commodities from it, based upon satisfying available supply at its Commodity Market
When buying and selling, it's generally more positive to a faction to satisfy a higher supply and demand (green 3-bar icon) than a lower (red 1-bar icon), and it's generally more positive to trade more expensive commodities than cheaper ones".

i don't read that as saying that selling a Commodity at a zero Demand Market will have no Influence. just that it is less effective to do so.

that being said, i often don't have the best comprehension and over look the obvious.

It depends on how you interpret "available demand" and whether "sure, you can sell that here but the demand is zero" counts as "available".

I haven't kept up on all the tests which have been done so I can't say for certain if the Reddit post is correct, and if so whether it applies to one or both ways to get zero demand.
