Zodiac Challenge

Since my sign is Sagittarius, I've decided to visit all the stars in the constellation Sagittarius. Most of the stars visible to the naked eye from Earth are fairly close so they mostly won't be outside "civilized" space. But it's still a good reason to make a trip anyway. I've decided to go by magnitude, so I started with Kaus Australis (Epsilon Sagittarii). Even though it's an inhabited system, I still earned 47KCr from scans & detailed scans. Eta Sagittarii was right next door, so I stopped by there too.

If anybody else wants to try, Wikipedia has a convenient list of stars by constellation

What definition of constellation are you going with? If you go with the astronomical definition... you'll never complete the challenge. The constellation of Sagittarius includes Sgr A*, the Lagoon Nebula and SO much more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagittarius_(constellation)

The list you cited is for "notable" stars... not a complete list in the slightest.

This is funny, I had the same thought last night (except for Aries, obviously ;)). And then, when I started to research, I hit Jaiotus's question. Is just visiting the stars that make up the "lines" of the constellation enough? Hmm.

Just the ones that make up the lines. For just about any of the constellations "all" the stars would be millions, since every star in our galaxy is included in one constellation or another. Well, except for the Sun.

Have had the idea for a while, of going for a zodiac tour. But as soon as I started to plot stars, it makes for irregular pattern, that for most are in civilized space and it makes for impractical. Also, kept finding so different versions of the same constellations, and then the stars in ED are not consistently named after one but many catalogues... which makes a headache just to poin them.

Your approach of doing just one sign seems a good alternative though. Good luck!
