ZOMG!! So Many Neutron Stars

I've done it!! Finally encountered one of the neutron star fields. On my way back from Sag A and I'm in the thick of it.

Excuse me for a few weeks while I milk them for every single credit I can get. This is gonna be awesome!

I guess you've got an itch for Neutron stars and clearly you ain't good at scratching ;)

Have a good time and come back Elite commander o7

I meandered through them from the edge to the great annihilator. Basically going north to the nearest one each time. I hit 800 in 6,000 light years plus a fee dozen white dwarfs and black holes where there wasn't a nearby neutron.

To be honest I'd not have managed many more and the last 100 or so I was doing 15 LY jumps to get it over with!

I hope to be about a third, maybe half, of the way to Elite when I get back.

Next time I find one of the smaller nearer neutron fields as it's a fair old trek to get there!

I am already ranked Ranger, so hoping this trip will push me to Elite then I can get the founders world permit and buy some new ships on the cheap.

Just curious, but what is the refueling situation in the neutron fields? Do you have check to make sure you within range of a scoopable? Or are you always in range of a main sequence star?

I ask because I'm considering taking my 16T fuel tank Asp on a neutron hunt. And that's only 3 max jumps.

It of course depends on the sector. I've only been in one neutron field and I didn't have trouble. Check ahead before you go :)

If you're in the sparse NS fields way below the galactic plane, the scoopables are infrequent. The NS fields around the centre and out are blathered in main sequence stars (lots of G types as well). If you're in a particularly dense field (NS systems c.3-5Ly apart), that 16T Asp tank will net you about 30-40 jumps from NS to NS before you need to scoop.

You only need to jump a few LY between each neutron star so can easily do 50 between refuelling. And since many of them are binaries with a scoopable star I generally just keep going until I'm below half and then scoop at the first star that's less than a few hundred LS from the neutron star. Worst case there are LOADS of stars about so it's an easy jump to one.

As everyone has said above, loads of scoopable stars in the field between Sol and Sag A. I filter the Galmap so all I see are Neutron and Carbon stars. The jumps between Neutron can be as little as 1-2LY. In my 32t DBX I can do many, many, many jumps and when I get to about a quarter of a tank left I filter the map again to show a scoopable star and just jump there.

Many of the binary Neutron stars will have a scoopable star but these can often be hundreds or thousands of LS away so jumping to a different system is often quicker.

Just a note that it is already a horrid grind. I have put in 2-3 hours of game time doing this and it is a struggle to stay focused.
